Since 1987, Final Fantasy has remained a juggernaut in video games and is regarded as one of the best RPG series of all time. Among the numerous classics in the series, Final Fantasy 7 stands above the rest as being arguablyꦡ the most memorable entry. With several spin-off games and movies, Square Enix decided to take the Final Fantasy 7 world and explore a new frontier: battle royale.
Final Fantꦺasy 7: The First Soldier is set 30 years before the events of the original game. While the game is strictly an online competitive multiplayer experience with no campaign, a loose story is being told about the rise of Shinra and its quest for power and dominatio♑n.
But you’re not here to be worried about Shinra or saving the planet (sorry, Avalanche) - you’re worried about surviving the 75-person free-for-all, and this guide will help you emerge victoriously as you start your journey of becoming the greatest Soldier in ♛history.
Pay Attention To The Tutorial
After you’ve created your Soldier, the game will drop you into a training session to learn the basics. While you can always access the training mode to continue pജerfecting your skills, it’s important to pay attention to the initial session. Final Fanta♌sy 7: The First Solder does a tremendous job explaining how each attack works, how to loot items, and basically, how to win.
The other main benefit of utilizing the initial training course is you’ll be by yourself. Once you hop back into the training mode, you’ll have to deal with other players wanting to brush up on their skills. While you can’t die in the training sess🦂ion, other players can attack you and simply cause a ruckus in the area.
Classes
Before you skydive into Midgar, you'll need to choose a class. There are five classes in Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier that will influence the way you play. The classes come more into effect if you're playing with other people because you'd want to coordinate complimentary classes with your teammates, instead of everyone playing as the same class.
Warrior |
|
Monk |
|
Ninja |
|
Sorcerer |
|
Ranger |
|
Each class can be further upgraded based on your performance in matches in the Mastery section. By completing challenges and earning experience points, you can unlock class-specific cosmetic items and a special currency used to unlock different abilities and skills for each class. So, if you aren't too fond of the starting abilities and skills for a certain class, there might be something more appealing to you that's just locked.
Helicopter Control
Unlike most battle royale games, Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier launches each player into Midgar on their own personal helicopter. Not only can you customize how your helicopter looks, but this also means you have full control to choose which area of the map you'd like to land. Instead of trying to "fly" your way to certain points of interest, simply direct the helicopter to where you want to go.
When first starting out, we recommend sticking to the outskirts of Midgar. That means areas like the Sector 5 Station, Church, House with Greenery, and Colosseum should be safer to land than areas like Corneo's Mansion or Sector 7 Undercity. The helicopter will begin its route randomly, so be sure to have a few drop locations𓂃 in mind depending on where the helicopter starts flying into Midgar.
Inventory Slots
Once you drop into Midgar, you’ll only have your melee weapon at your disposal. Searching around the map for better weapons and gear is essential to succeed in Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, but you’ll need to know how much you can carry in your inventory. You can carry two firearms, in addition to your melee weapon, so we recommend an assault rifle and then whichever second weapon you feel most comfortable with. There are snipers, sub-machine guns, shotguns, and high-powered pistols to choose from. Although the game is in the third-person view with the over-the-shoulder camera, you can aim down gun sights for a more precise shot.
When it comes to using magic, you can carry three Materia. Magic can be highly powerful, but also dangerous if used recklessly. There is friendly fire and self-fire in Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, so be careful where you’re aiming fireballs and lightning strikes. We highly suggest carrying Cure, as you can use it an unlimited amount of times if you have enough MP. For healing items, you can carry three Potions of each kind.
Shooting Methods
It might be a bit jarring for some Final Fantasy 7 veterans to use machines guns in Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, but that feeling of discomfort will wash away quickly. Using long-range weapons like guns will be key to emerging victoriously from the 75♎ player battle. There are three different firing methods to choose from in the game:
- Auto Fire: Automatically fires when your crosshair is on a target.
- Floating Fire: Fire button floats on the screen and follows the camera.
- Fixed Fire: Fire button set in a fixed location.
Regardless of whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, we recommend using Auto Fire. Unless you're playing the game with an attached controller, it's hard enough to aim on a mobile device, let alone click to shoot, as well. Auto Fire allows you to only worry about aiming and the game does the rest. As long as the crosshair remains on the enemy, your gun will hit its target.
Finding Loot
After dropping into Midgar, it's a frantic search for better weapons and gear. Typically, it's smart to locate areas of the map that most people won't land in, so you can freely loot without fear of being attacked. Loot can be found in chests, supply drops, or death boxes (the remains of fallen enemies). The centre reticle on your screen will begin to flash a chest icon when it's close, so make sure you're paying close attention.
The game will announce when a supply drop is incoming, so plan accordingly. You can attempt to quickly loot the drop once it falls or use it as a trap for other unsuspecting Soldiers. On top of finding loot, you can upgrade weapons and purchase items from vending machines. These are the same machines that were introduced in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, so players of that game will be familiar with the vending machines here. You collect Gil from defeating enemies, monsters, or from chests, which is how you can purchase weapon𝓡s and items from the vending machines.
Vehicles And Chocobos
Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier might only have one map, Midgar, but it’s massive. It’s practically impossible to survey the entire map on foot, which is why the game added vehicles and Chocobo stations for your convenience. You can find random Shinra motorbikesℱ scattered around the map and the Chocobo signpost🦄s to summon a friendly bird.
In the game menu, you can access the Chocobo farm to breed and feed your feathery companion. Certain veggies affect different stats for the Chocobo, so you can focus on nourishing a speedster Chocobo or a fighting Chocobo. Enemies can detect you 🎶on a vehicle if they’re close to you, so be wary of unsuspecting incoming fire.
