Last week Christopher Schierbock, lead vocalist of The Eyes Inside, alleged that his ba🌱nd had put 50-60 hours into a 🦹song for Abandoned. The PlayStation excl♔usive indie game drew a lot of attention in 2021 after it was wrapped up in a conspiracy that suggested it was actually the next game from Hideo Kojima and possibly a new Silent Hill. Schierbock tells TheGamer his time has gone unpaid, the song unused, and the band has not heard from the studio for some time.
So far, that Kojima theory has proven to just be a projection of a hungry fan base, but what Abandoned is actually about is still a complete mystery. Beyond the few gameplay details we were given during the reveal, all we’ve had are brief teasers and claims from the developers, Blue Box Game Studios, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:that have since been 🎶deleted altogether.
&ldq🧜uo;Oh yeah, I followed EVERYTHING about the rumours,” Schierbock says. “But I never asked Hasan [Kahraman, director at Blue Box Game Studios], if it has something to do with [Silent 🐬Hill] or Kojima because I had too much respect”. Much like the rest of us, Schierbock first heard of Abandoned thanks to the rumour mill, but even on the inside, he was kept in the dark as much as we all were.
“We made a song called Exitus”, Schierbock tells me. “After that I was like, ‘oh dude, this song could be in a video game’. So I started to ask Hasan via email if he is interested. And then there came an answer: ‘Hey, I love it! I will discuss it and will come back later’. After some days he asked if we can make an instrumental version of this song. After some changes he was like, ‘that's awesome - we will provide you with a one-time fee. The song will be in the game and maybe in a teaser’.”
Although Schierbock claimed on Twitter to have spent 50-60 hours on the song, he clarified to me that estimate was in regards to the work put into the song in g꧃eneral. The edited version he made for Abandoned took around six to eight hours and was supposed to be featured within a teaser for the game, alongside eventually appearing in the full release.
Despite that work, anyone who has been keeping up with Abandoned will know that there’s only been one teaser so far and that the music featured in it isn’t Exitus from The Eyes Inside💛. After recording the song in August, Schierbock didn’t hear from the studio until several months later.
“The next time I had a message from him was kinda late at the end of the year with: ‘Hey, sorry your mails didn't come through, it's very much to do with here’,”Schierbock says. “In January I gave him a reminder from LinkedIn. There, he said, ‘Sorry for the huge delay. Do you have a PS5?’”
Schierbock doesn’t know why he was asked if he had a PS5 and says there was no communication from either Kahraman or Blue Box Game Studios after that email to clarify what was happening with the song. That is, until earlier this week when Kahraman called him to explain the situation. “Today we had a call and he really apologized for the communication we've had,” Schierbock says. “He said that he would like to pay us compensation when the game is released. The song will not be used, but that's cool.”
Despite working on a song for the game, Schierbock knows just as much about Abandoned as the rest of us. That is to say, nothing. “I never had any information about 🏅it. I have never seen anything of this game”.
Although the situation seems to have resolved itself thanks to Schierbock’s most recent call with Hasan, it’s clear the process was very stressful. Still, he holds no ill will towards the studio. “I hope that Blue Box Game Studios is a real thing and that they are making a cool game. I hope that they take their time and don't have too much crunch time.”
There’s a silver lining to the situation as Schierbock’s work is receiving more attention than the band has had before, “We saw that many people love the song. That's awesome. We never had feedback for over 30 songs we made in the past three years. I love video games and I hope someday that The Eyes Inside will be in a video game.”
