For a series originally aimed at children and young adults, there is a heck of a lot of somber content that lies within. It only takes a few flicks th❀rough the Pokédex to start noticing some changes in tone from the usually hyper-cheery mood of the series.
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Take Yamask for example: the mask it carries resembles the face of the human being that it was before it died! Or what about Muk being close to extinction due to food shortages? Or the fact that some of the cards that you traded away in childhood are 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:now worth thousands of dollars? ...Too ♈soon? Well, misery loves company; surely the art of some of those cards can tell some equally sad stories.
10 Charmeleon vs. Swablu (Accidentally) 𒊎
The focal Pokemon in this card (Charmeleon) isn't what makes this card sad - it's what it's doin🔴g to the poor Swablu behind it! The Charmeleon doesn't seem to be burning Swab🎀lu on purpose as it is more concerned with the berry in front of it.
But the sudden fear in the face of Swablu is truly upse🦋tting -- especially when one considers how well cotton wool burns.
9 ♈ Electabuzz - Lonely Or Just An In🌺trovert?
This card, hailing from the Diamond and Pearl expansion, is wonderfully illustrated. And there is nothing explicitly bad happening to Electabuzz, but its expression and the cityscape behind it conjures up a terrifically sad f♑eeling of loneliness.
Electabuzz isn't looking at anything in particular; it's staring straight ahead blankly and appears thoroughly miserable. Compl♍etely alone, away from the city...it's hard not to want to console the poor thing.
8 🌌Noꦐbody Puts Wooper In A Bad Mood
This card shouldn't exist. Not that it's not a fantastic illustration - Atsuko Nishida can be considered one of the best illustrators in the franchise (and is responsible for the creation of a little Pokemon called Pikachu). But it shouldn't exist because Wooper always has this beautiful smile pl🐻astered across its face.
Wondering what could have happened to make this poor guy so miserable doesn't bear thinking about it. Thankfully, the ♔Japanese McDonald's promo version of the card shows it with its big smile again, so something cheered it up - maybe it was the nuggets.
7 If Chidi From The Good Place W🎀as An Elgyem
This card brings about serious 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:first-movie Mewtwo vibes. Elgyem, described by the Pokedex as appearing🍷 near a UFO crash site 50 years ago, stares at itself in a window. Seeing a Pokemon looking this introspective is rare. Elgyem looks as if it's wrest❀ling with big existential dread and questions like "Who am I?" "What am I?"
This piece excellently communicates the loneliness and confusion that Elgyem must be expe🌜riencing. The most hard-hitting pieces are often those that fans can connect with on an emotional level and seeing Elgyem show this humanlike curiosity certainly achieves this.
6 Unrequited Love Omanyte ♑ ♍
The foc൩al point of this card is⭕ the Omanyte on the far right who is very visibly upset about something. The reason for this can be easy to miss -- especially if one is flicking through their pulls as quickly as possible, focused on finding the rare card.
The bubbles hovering over the two Omanyte on the left are in the shape of ಌa heart. So it appears that our Omanyte is heartbroken, and again, anyone who has felt unrequited love can empathize with our shelled friend here, making for a very emotive piece.
5 Psyduck Is Tragically Clumsy (Please Help) 🌼
Oh, Psyduck. Forever the comic relief in the first few seasons of the anime, Psyduck could never get anything right. He appeared when he wasn't wanted, didn't attack when he should, and just irritated Misty in general. All this while suffering from a hea▨dache that, according to the Pokedex, it is always tormented by.
Most of the time, Psyduck is almost oblivious to what's going on around it, and that's what makes this art so upsetting. Because Psyduck doesn't expect it, the viewer's sympathy for the poor duck must hit hard when seeing ꦺit fall like this. Maybe it was attacked, maybe it tripped; what's certain is that it doesn't deserve any of it and maybe just needs some ibuprofen or something.
4 🐻 Psyduck (Poten🀅tially With PTSD?)
Psyduck returns again - building upon the previous entry, it's definite that Psyduck doesn't have much of a clue as to what's going on aro💧und it. On the rare occasions when it does use its Psychic powers it, according to Gold's Pokedex, "doesn't recall that it has used them".
The fact that Psyduck is apparently unaware of its powers is what makes this card so heartbreaking. The card is from the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Team Rocket set, so it can be assume🦹d that, like the other Pokemon in the s🤡et, it belongs to Team Rocket.
Team Rocket aren't shown to be the kindest trainers🎀 and the Psyduck in the illustration looks like it is in extreme pain with ꦫpsychic waves surrounding it. It's not much of a stretch to suggest that the suffering Pokemon is either being forced to use its powers or it's using them in reaction to extreme stress. Either way, this Psyduck is extremely unhappy.
3 Cubone (Also Suffering From PTSD) 🎉
There had to be a Cubone card on the list. The list could've easily been 10 Cubone cards - but this one takes🍨 the cake. Most fans are familiar with Cubone's story as it wears the skull of its dead mother that rattles🔯 loudly when it cries (which is often). But this piece really rubs salt in the wounds.
Not only is Cubone perpetually miserable because of its missing parent, but nearby a mother and her child are embracinꦑg, smiling. The way Cubone cuddles its bone suggests ওthat it, too, is desperate to be embraced by its own mother. Are you crying? It's okay if you're crying.
2 🅠 Recycle - A Funny Yet Sad ♏Play On Words
If one was to ask about the saddest Pokemon card art, it's doubtful that many people would immediately begin thinking about trainer cards. Who can blame them? Most trainer cards show some sort of device or spray; it's much rarer to see a trainer card with a Pokemon included in the illustration. Even rarer is a trainer card this upsetting!
Jigglypuff here is obviously pretty low: it's been injured - perhaps in a battle - and has been put out of action. Understandable as fighting is a pretty central part of the series. This card only truly reaches peak misery when one considers the title and the machine Jigglypuff is being picked up by. "Recycle". They're going to recycle Jigglypuff. Worse still is that perhaps Jigglypuff isn't looking so glum because of its injury. Maybe it's looking so glum because it knows🎀 what will happen next. Let's not imagi🌳ne what that involves.
1 Spoink - If You Stop, You Die ღ
Oh boy. What's wrong with this card? It's a very cute pig Pokemon surrounded by its friends staring adorably at the viewer. Right? Wrong. Spoink is the Bounce Pokemon. It is always bouncing. Why? Because, according to Ruby, "if it stops, its heart will stop". Excuse me?
This isn't a one-off piece of lore that has been retconned either - Ruby, Diamond and Pearl, Heartgold and Soulsilver, Black and White, Black and White 2, X and Y, and Alpha Ruby and Omega Sapphiꦡre's Pokedex entries for the poor thing all make reference to 🐭this. And that pig doesn't look like it's bouncing.
