Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity recently launched for Nintendo Switch. Set 100 years prior to Breath of the Wild, ♛it does all kinds of weird shit and throws a massive spanner in the works for Breath of the Wild 2 — 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:I loved it. But i🦄nstead of scratching your head while attempting to unravel the immense batshittiness of The Legend of Zelda’s ever-changing timeline, you could be hanging out with Guardian egg, the newest and irrefutably best addition to the ongoing trend of baby sidekicks in modern media.

Ba༺by Yoda was all the rage when The Mandalorian first came to Disney+, but I haven’t seen half as many posts about him since season 2 started. In fact, the only time I saw anyone talking about him recently was about a week ago when pretty much every Mando fan I know said, “Baby Yoda is an idiot.” I haven’t seen the series, but I’m inclined to agree that he is, in fact, an idiot — at least in comparison to Guardian egg, also known as Terrako.

Editor’s note: This article includes spoilers for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

There’s a scene in Age of Calamity where Zelda and her mates are talking about a knight 𝕴who is prophesied to fight alongside the four Champions in the inevitable battle𓄧 against Calamity Ganon. “That’s Link!” I hear you say. Congratulations, that’s a gold star for you.

But we’re forgetting that everyone’s favourite Guardian egg was accidentally teleported an entire century into the past, and when Zeldaꦚ says, “Well, Link is the knight,” Terrako decides it’s having absolutely none of it. In many ways, Terrako reminds me more of a golden retriever than a miniature automaton who’s supposed to grow up and become a cyclops-eyed death machine corrupted by the most nefarious evil p♍ower in history.

The scene mentioned above transpires pretty early in the game. Zelda tries to field the pretty necessary discussion of how to save the world from being plunged into perpetual darkness, but Mipha and Daruk quickly start having a laugh while Revali flies away like the arrogant (but likable) dick he is. Me🎉anwhile, Terrako starts taking the piss out of young Impa and all of a sudden it’s less, “Oh no, the world is ending,” and more, “Get back here you little shit,” like you say to your dog when he nicks a rock from the back garden despite knowing for a fact that he’s going to hurt his teeth by chomping on it. Terrako 🔯has the same energy.

However, Terrako is more than just a marketing-driven capitalization on a contemporary industry trend. Our little Guardian egg is the core reason as to why Age of Calamity and Breath of the Wild exist in alternate versions of the same timeline, and despite its cutesy design and cheeky personality, it sacrifices itself in order to save Hyrule and prevent the ꦇfour Champions from dying against the Blights of Ganon. In a way, you could argue that it really was the knight it saw itself as, despite no🔯t being the guy with the blonde hair and green tunic. Zelda, I think his name is.

(I’m joking, please don’t leave angry comments).

We’ve seen loads of baby characters that revel in cute points and meme viability over the last decade or so — Baby Groot, Baby Sonic, and Baby Yoda spring to mind as three of the most renowned ones. Even Kojima played into it with the weird “babies as energy sources for invisible monster-detecting shoulder propellers” in Deat♔h Stranding. Terrako is different: it’s funny, and adorable, and endearingly mischievous, but it also plays a key role in a moving story that completely rewrites something we took as a de facto narrative back in 2017. It quickly went from a cute little advertising mascot to a central part of a compelling reappropriation of one of the most revered Zelda stories in recent memory, and that’s something that can’t be said for any of the other 21st Century baby characters.

Also, it looks like an e🧸gg, except it’s also a baby death robot. What’s not to love? Guardian egg is the best.
