You only see Mr. Scratch briefly before this and his appearance comes as a complete surprise. You have to keep yourself composed for the boss fight ahead despite the horror you just wi🌸tnessed.
3 Saga Talking To 𒁃David Before The Finale About Logan𝔍

Saga Anderson tried so long to call her husband to see if reality had indeed changed and her daughter Logan drowned in Bright Falls due to Alan Wake's writing. David confirms Saga's worst fear and says Logan has passed away. The fright here is based on pure dread, an emotion far more terrifying than any jump scare or horrific image could illicit from us.
That feeling isn't assuaged by the game's climax, as the credits literally roll on Saga Anderson waiting for Logan toꦛ pick up the phone to see if she survived.

Alan Wake slowly sees parts of a documentary showing Alice Wake processing her grief at Alan's disappearance. The final part shows the last photos she took before presumably ending her own life. They are eerie black-and-white pictures of her turning away from the camera and leaping into Cauldron Lake.
You're in Alan Wake's shoes here and seeing him discover what he believed to be the tragic truth. The ending reveals that she is still alive and voluntarily entered the Dark Place, but the disturbed feeling of seeing her drastic act through the lens of her own art won't leave us anytime soon.
