Aliens: Fireteam Elite - Pathogen Mutants Fighting Xenomorphs

There's quite a lot to unpack as the devs have been very busy. For example, there's an entirely new campaign with three missions that take you to a new set of locations. There is a story, but the new enemies are worth more ♚of a mention as they add an extra bit of creature variety🧸 to the spawn pool during gameplay.

There are a bunch of new decals, weapon skins, cosmetics, cards, and a bunch of new guns to play around with after clearing the campaign. Finally, there's also a hardcore mode with permadeath for masochists looking for a challenge. There's more to touch on, so here's each new feature broken apart so you can see exactly what your money is being spent on.

Campaign

Aliens: Fireteam Elite - Exploring The Pathogen Mutants Hive

The overall campaign is called Promise Of A Flower and each mission has its own designation and they're tied to a short story that you can blow through. They can take around 20 minutes each, so they're not too much of a time-sink. But they are genuinely challenging. Even on St🦂andard difficulty, the hordes are almost constant and they 🐼come at you in much larger numbers than they normally do.

You need a Combat Rating of at least 500 to attempt them. So it's worth leaving this side story until you've finished the main campaign and have leveled up a substantial amount. Scout

Aliens: Fireteam Elite - Marines Being Ambushed By Xenomorphs In The First Mission

Word has come that the Xenomorphs are massing on a planet, the Colonial Marines are concerned that the Xeno's are making another hive to expand their influence. After going to the planet to follow up on this, it turns out the place is absolutely crawling with aliens. Your goal is to scan dismembered drones to figure out what exactly is going on and why this horde is here in such overwhelming numbers.

It's a constant uphill fight against some genuinely massive hordes of aliens in a fairly large zone that has you play a scavenger hunt to find demolition charges that are placed in one of a few random locations. If you get a lucky roll you can breeze through it in a few minutes, if not, this mission can last quite a while.

Approach

Aliens: Fireteam Elite - Cutting Through Locks With A Laser In The Second Mission

Venturing further within the site, the Fireteam find that the local Xenomorph population is being hunted by a much more dangerous and aggressive predator. Whilst you only catch glimpses of them at first, eventually you have a full-on confrontation with a faction of Xenos that have been mutated after exposure to an Engineer Pathogen. It's a short, fairly uninspiring level. Your task in this one is to defend a laser drill on two separate occasions whilst holding off hordes of Aliens.

From there, the game dumps an ungodly amount of them on you along with the new Pathogen faction once you enter the mutated hive and in pretty quick order they introduce each new monster type that's been added with the DLC. Though why Herrera seems to know what they're called despite them being an undiscovered and new species is anyone's guess. After holding off the defenders of the Hive entrance, the team venture inside.

Strike

Aliens: Fireteam Elite - Pathogen Runner Ambushing Marine In Their Hive

Breaching further into the hive, the Fireteam have one heck of a firefight ahead of them as the denizens of this fungal fortress aren't too pleased about their new visitors. Wave after wave of mutant is thrown at the team with a few new monsters mixed in to keep you on your toes. After finding the source of the infection, the Squad has to fight off a Pathogen infected Queen. It's a satisfying finale that feels like the developers trying to make up for the original encounter with the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Xenomorph Queen in the main game where inst🔜ead of fighting, you just run away.

Pathogen Creatures

Aliens: Fireteam Elite - Engineer Pathogen Cannisters

In the base game, most of the time you'll have wave after wave of Xenomorph thrown at you and that's all well and good. But it does get a little stale after a while. Pathogen mixes things up somewhat by🏅 leaning heavilyไ into the mutated monsters that you encounter briefly in the main campaign.

These feral creatures are Xenomorphs that have been exposed to the Engineer Pathogen and have mutated into pale sickly forms. Though you have encountered them before, this new breed have appeared on a far-flung moon for no apparent reason. The additions aren't many and you only encounter them in the back end of the second mission and throughout the entirety of the third, so it's a fairly short exposure but they're more visually interesting at least. They're fairly challenging to contend with and satisfying to shred, but they're essentially a reskin of existing creatures so there isn't anything game-changing. Runner

Behaving the same as Xenomorph Runners. These pale and gangly creatures like mass attacks and geꦅtting into melee range for a swipe.

Weapons

Aliens: Fireteam Elite - Three Lancers Firing Their New Heavy Weapons

When it first launched there weren't a lot of weapons in Aliens: Fireteam Elite. But after some chunky updates and now its first piece of DLC, the game's arsenal has only expanded. With Pathogen comes four brand new firearm rewards for beating the story that are fairly powerful and fun to mag dump.

Here's each unlockable weapon and what you need to do to get your hands on them in the DLC:

After unlocking each of these can be purchased from the weapon vendor back in Headquarters. Although, make sure you have the cash to spare if you want to get your hands on these pricey pieces of kit. There are also some extra guns that have been added for purchase and tons of attachments to let you further tweak your fancy new toys. So plenty of new boomsticks for your trigger-happy teammates.

Cosmetics

Aliens: Fireteam Elite - Marines In Unique Outfits With A Cache

The options for playing dress-up with your marines was a little stark at first, but now the wardrobe is thankfully a little larger. For owners of the Pathogen DLC you'll unlock the Expedition Suit Mk.2 which looks like it's straight out of Prometheus, and the Pala Lab Coat to make yourself look like a heavily armed Lab Worker. It's not much, but it's something different and it fits with the science gone wrong theme.

There are also four new head accessories that range from face-covering bandanas to sunglasses, a new helmet, and a beanie. For weapon customization, there are nine new colors and four decals. Whilst to keep the social side more interesting they've added four new emotes. The merchants also got a substantial selection of new stuff as well, such as purchasable guns and additional sprays and cosmetics. Plus the caches have been given some extra loot to make your guns and marine more personalized.

Perks

There are quite a number of quirky and powerful perks to play around with for each of the classes in Aliens: Fireteam Elite. They provide a fair amount of options for either optimizing your class or setting yourself up in a different role. Aliens: Fireteam Elite - The Hardcore Mode Warning Window

For those looking to truly test their skills as a team then the new Hardcore Mode is worth checking out. You start with a brand new character, that comes with a max level cap of 50. You also have to fight much tougher enemies, but there are a bunch of exclusive rewards for proving you're the strongest squad around.

There are new weapon colors, decals, four new Perks, emotes, attachments, 32 new Challenge Cards, and one new hat. Your cash carries over. But you have to repurchase all of your gear from the Armory again after you die. It's a solid challenge for the endgame and a true test of skill for a group of Marines.
