At PAX East, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:THQ Nordic took a page from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Kojima playbook with a playable teaser for Pieces Interactive’s upcoming Alone in the Dark. The brief seven minute look is a prologue for the upcoming horror game which features returning character Grace, a young girl exploring a ♎small section of Derceto Manor, the setting for the rest of the game.

It begins with Grace in her warmly lit room. She's wearing a blue shirt, a skirt, and a sun hat. Things mostly look normal, with floral wallpaper, pennant flags hanging from a book shelf, painting supplies sprawled out on a faded pink rug in the center of the room, and a desk with more art supplies. A chest at the end of Grace's bed sits slightly ajar with a comic book on top and a teddy bear leaning against it. All of this looks impressively atmospheric, with dust motes floating in the shafts of light pouring into the room. But, some things are a little eerie. There's a mask, which Grace can hold up to her face, and a doll posed precariously on the book shelf.

Once you exit Grace's room, the game shifts quickly towards unease. Down the hall, returning character Jeremy Hartwood seems to be experiencing a paranoid episode. "I have to tell someone what is going on here. I have to try… you're not one of them are you?" he asks Grace. "Please, tell me, Grace. You're not a spy, are you?" He worries that the recipient of the letter won't read it if they can tell it's from him, so Grace offers to send the letter herself, and takes it with her.

Grace is a charming character, and seems almost like an old Southern woman in a young girl's body. When a phonograph starts to play, she comments, "A little night music." When she stumbles across an untidy area after crossing a flooded room, she logically concludes, "I suppose this mess pales in comparison to the one in the foyer." She reminds me of a very smart sleuth in a children's book. The official trailer for the game suggests that a darker fate is awaiting Grace, though, showing her singing, "The House of the Rising Sun" in the same bedroom from the demo, now with the baby doll hanging by its neck from the ceiling. The song ends with Grace looking into the camera as she slides a noose around her neck.

In the demo, though, the threats to Grace are entirely exterior. She passes by some creepy statues, and climbs down the stairs to the flooded foyer. As Grace approaches the swampy water, a monstrous amphibian appears, then goes back under the scummy surface. If you climb back up the stairs, you can knock over a stuffed bear, providing a matted bridge across the water. All of Grace's interactions are simple. Though the final game will have shooting, in the demo your actions are limited to walking and looking around, and pressing one catch-all button for any interaction.

The playable portion of the demo ends with another monster (at least, it didn't appear to be the one from before) sneaking up on Grace, before suddenly cutting to the game's actual protagonists, Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby as they pull up to the manor. Emily has received her uncle Jeremy's letter and has come to investigate. In this demo, you only see the heroes from the back. Pieces Interactive and THQ Nordic are pointedly saving their faces for a future reveal.
