Amazon's big-budget hero shooter-MOBA hybrid Crucible isn't off to a great start. In fact, the size of the player base is oddly similar to Gearbox's Battleborn, a similar style of🎉 game that, unfortunately, never found an audience.
It's only been a week since Amazon Studio's released their free-to-play game Crucible on Steam and its starting to look like it might be in trouble. According to , 𝔉the game peaked at 25k players on launch day and has steadily lost players every day since. Today's 24-hour peak is just under 4000. Currently, there are on𝄹ly 3,000 people playing the game.
Battleborn actually faired a bit worse in the first week than Crucible has. When it launched in 2016, Battleborn peaked at 12k players on launch day, but even that small group of players didn't stick around for longꦅ.
We actually think Crucible has a lot of potential. In my reඣview, I praised the game's unique character designs🌜 and fun combat but cited that the currently available game modes feel half-baked and underdeveloped.
Amazon has likely invested a lot in Crucible, but at this point, it's hard to imagine how the game can possibly turn things around. I suspect with a few years of content updates Crucible could end up being a really impressive game, but it's starting to ✱look ꦏlike it won't have the chance.
