The Amnesia series takes you to different periods set in ominous new locations and puts you in the shoes of varying characters in disturbing situations. In Amnesia: The Bunker, you're trapped inside a WWI bunker with a monster as the war outside on the battlefield rages on. However, there are always elements that connect each game to be discovered.
Amnesia: The Bunker is the series' most contained environment but also the most frightening due to the bunker's layout and passageways from which the monster will enter. And there's much to be noticed if you've played the previous Amnesia games before it.

10 The Game's Short Length
The latest Amnesia game is the shortest game in the series since 2013's A Machine For Pigs, roughly taking around the same time of four to six ꦜhours to beat. This is much shorter than The Dark Descent and the previous Amnesia: Rebirth, requirin🌠g be🎀tween eight and ten hours of playtime for completion.
This is mainly because the story is pretty minimal and less complicated to piece together, and it's all about the short objective of escaping the bunker where the creature is stalking you in claustrophobic spaces. You may be disappointed by the length, but the suspenseful gameplay is genuinely some of the best in the Amnesia series thus far.
9 🌟 🌟 A New French Protagonist Facing Horrors
In Amnesia: The Bunker, you play a French soldier in WWI named Henri Clément, but he's not the first French protagonist introduced in the Amnesia series. The Amnesia: Justine expansion for The Dark Descent featured female protagonist Justine Florbelle, a disturbing villainous character who murdered her father and tortured her suitors.

In Rebirth, cutscenes and memories were designed as detailed sketches of the characters, and even photographs of the expedition crew could be recovered.
Among the notes and dog tags you can collect from fallen comrades in The Bunker are also many photograph mementos of past events. There's one of Lambert with his family visiting the Eiffel Tower before the war, a location where Tasi and her husband Salim also took a picture together. The design detail of the period in the photo evokes the same attention put into Rebirth's images.
6 L🍌one Monster And No Sanity Meter 🐭
Games like The Dark Descent, Rebirth, and A Machine For Pigs usually had at least two to three grotesque enemy types. However, aside from the rats and the murderous soldier Toussaint, who you encounter as a boss in the Roman Tunnels, The Beast is the sole enemy giving chase. It's a giant mutated golem-like monster with torn clothing and long razor-sharp nails with many entryways throughout the bunker to sneak up on you. 5 ෴ Orbs And The Other World
The primary lore that ties together the Amnesia series is the Other World and the Orbs that belong to that world and cause all the depravity in the protagonist's world. You can see elements of the Other World in Amnesia: The Bunker's story through the journal entries you come across about certain characters' experiences and the floating pieces of debris.
Also in the Roman Tunnels is a statue of a Roman figure wearing a robe and cape with a missing right arm and the left-hand holding an Orb. This imagery is similar to the giant Orb statue found in the Other World in Rebirth, though your character in this game never receives an Orb dur🌠ing the plot.
4 𒈔 Harvester Water From Amnesia: Rebirth
A direct plot point returning from Rebirth is the Harvester water that infected Tasi and the rest of her expedition crew, turning them into the Harvester monsters th♍at stalked her. This same mutagen from the Other World ended up in a pool of water in a crater outside the Roman Tunnels and was the direct cause of Augustin Lambert transforming into The Beast.
And it was Henri who unwittingly created the monster form of Augustin by having his weakened friend drink it, unaware that the water from this source was contaminated. Harvesters in Rebirth were much different than Augustin's design, but it could be an additional mutation from the chemicals he was exposed to earlier on the battlefield.
3 ෴ The Shadow Is Present In The Final Battle
Amnesia: The Bunker sees the Shadow return in the final moments of the game in a very odd way. There's even a chance you might miss it entirely, and it's blurry and difficult to make out even when encountered. You will see the blurry red blob across the screen if you fall into the depths from the bridge platforms while escaping or finishing off the beast before the ending.
In the death animation, Henri picks himself up from the fall still alive, but then the Shadow appears and grows closer and closer to the camera.✱ The Shadow is typically a visible fleshy network growing around the environment to guard the Orbs, but its random appearance here only leaves more questions.
2 🔜 Animal Toys And Inv💜entory UI
Managing inventory space returns with a similar UI design, this time in a supply bag rather than a spiral notebook in Rebirth. So once again, you see the inventory design matches the character's background. Rebirth featured a spiral notebook that created sketches of the items because of Tasi's engineer drawings, and Henri's are stored in a satchel since he's a soldier with how they appear in-game.
The standard square slots hold weapons, explosives, ammunition, tools, and puzzle items. Among those is a stuffed rabbit toy of Lambert's he got for his child that you can use to distract his monster form during the game. This is reminiscent of the monkey toy named Makka, favored by Tasi's daughter Alys.
1 Augustin L🤪efévre And Pulling Grenade Pins
The previous Amnesia games might've left you defenseless, but they weren't entirely without weapons or explosives. Amnesia: Rebirth actually had a༺ tank puzzle that required pulling t🍃he pin of a grenade. And you have grenades in your arsenal in The Bunker in addition to Henri's starting revolver and Toussaint's shotgun, which you can throw at the platforms in the ending battle to make the monster fall through and result in an alternate ending.
The grenade in Rebirth is attached to the body of an army captain named Augustin Lefévre, sharing the same first name as the soldier character Augustin Lambert in Amnesia: The Bunker. This may be a nod or acknowledgment to the military theme in Amnesia: Rebirth that's the heavy focus of The Bunker.
