Gamers in Japan will soon be able to buy these items, but only through the l𒁃uck of the draw, as stores are holding lottery sales for these highly desired items.
Nintendo has a histo꧑ry of not anticipating the demand for items, leading to scalpers making money off rare items. In recent times, these limited number of units can be blamed on COVID-19, as Nintendo has had trouble producing units, due to factories being shut down in China.
The scarcity of some items in Japan has led to some stores in Japan relying on a lottery system for making items available. According to , Yodobashi is holding a lottery sales for base Nintendo Switch units and Ring-Fit Adventure until June 9. The official My Nintendo Store in Japan (via ) is also using a lottery system for sales of new Animal Crossing: New Horizon Switches in the future.
Limited edition versions of systems have always been tricky to get hold of and a console bearing the colors of one of the most popular Nintendo Switch games of the year is no exception. The blame for the stock problems with Ring-Fit Adventure can be placed at the feet of Nintendo. The company drastically underestimated the desire for the game, which led to president Shuntaro Furukawa publically apologizing for the supply problems. The fact that Ring-Fit Adventure needs the Ring-Con accessory to work means that gamers cannot purchase a digital version of the game, so they a𓂃re at the mercy of stock alerts from stores or paying ouꩲtrageous prices on the second-hand market.
This isn't the first time that stores in Japan have relied on lottery systems for Nintendo Switch items, as the release of Splatoon 2 led to mas🦄sive stock shortages in the region. 🐎It's a shame that not everyone has access to these games and systems, but at least the random element will stop scalpers from buying up units straight away and jacking up the price.
