Another Crab's Treasure: Grovekeeper Topoda Boss Guide
Th𓄧is Mantis Shrimp boss in Another Crab's Treasure is a difficult beast.
Pagurus is a large-sized crab that rushes to kill Krill every time you step into the boss🃏' spawn territory. Since this is an optional boss, it will despawn if you go further ahead in the area. This guide explains attack patterns, location, and the best strategy to beat Pagurus.
How To Find Pagurus
To reach Pagurus, you must start at the Upper Crust Shelleport checkpoint. From here, continue going north, and you will eventually reach a spot where the sandy surface starts.
Continue moving until you find a red-colored life buoy tube with two crabs standing at its ends. After you reach here, go east, and you will find Pagurus coming out from the earth to fight you.
Pagurus Attack Patterns
Attack |
Description |
---|---|
Five Hit Combo |
Pagurus rushes towards Krill and uses both hands to land a five-hit combo. He starts by swiping both pincers and jamming his arms in the sand, and the combo ends at an uppercut. This attack also damages nearby enemies if they get caught in it. |
Knife Swipe |
The standard attack of Pagurus involves using a knife strapped to its left pincer and making one swipe attack. |
Fork Swipe |
Pagurus's right pincer is strapped with a fork. Sometimes the boss will switch the basic attack with the fork swipe instead of a knife swipe. |
Fork Lunge |
The right arm of Pagurus is connected with a fork that he commonly utilizes to deal with a lunge attack. You get a blue icon warning at least one second before the attack is about to land on Krill. |
Aggro Grab |
Pagurus is a notoriously difficult boss because, most of the time, the aggro grab attack will one-shot Krill. Pagurus uses the knife in his left hand to slice and dice Krill while pinning him down with the fork. The boss attempts to grab Krill, and if he succeeds, Krill is eaten by it and ends up in his belly. Instead of tossi𒁏ng Krill into its mouth, Pagurus will sometimes toss him away. |
AoE Smash |
If Krill lingers too close to Pagurus for long, the boss will raise both pincers and strike them down, dealing massive AoE damage. A blue icon will appear on Krill's head, indicating the AoE Smash attack at least one second before it. |
Fright Scream |
If you see Pagurus jamming both pincers in the ground, know that his next attack will be a scream. The screen turns gray, and the fright status effect starts appearing and building up. Krill will hide in the shell if the bar maxes out, crying from fear. |
Centipede |
A centipede emerges from Pagurus's mouth if the boss's health drops below 50 percent. Like the fright scream, this attack builds up the fright status effect. However, its range is smaller than the fright scream attack. |
How To Beat Pagurus
- Recommended Stats: 15 Vitality, 20 Attack, 5 Resistance
- Recommended Shell: Banana Peel Shell
- Recommended Stowaways: Sea Star, Barnacle, Mussel
Pagurus can be encountered early in your journey, but beating this boss will be nearly impossible if you haven't spent enough time leveling up Krill. He hits hard and takes less damage from you since you will be under-leveled at this point. This can change if you farm the XP and level up Krill to the abovementioned stats.
Running away from the five-hit combo is the best way to avoid it. You can always dodge it if you time the button prompt, but there is a high chance of failure. Dodging the last uppercut is important a💫s it hits the hardest and takes a major portion of Krill's health bar.
Pagurus's aggro grab is the most frustrating move you must master to dodge away.
Do not press the dodge button immediately if you see the red icon above Krill's head. Wait at least one second and then dodge. Otherwise, pressing the dodge button sooner will cause Pagurus to grab Krill as soon as he recovers from it.
Another attack that you need to be mindful of is the AoE smash. A blue icon over Krill's head indicates this. Dodging is an important part of this boss fight, and brute aggression will only get you killed. Pagurus sometimes switches with the Fork Lunge attack. In any case, you will find the blue icon above Krill's heaꦆd, indicating you should dodge the move im𓆏mediately.
Every time Pagurus is done landing an attack, try to attack it first with the Royal Wave Adaptation. This will allow Krill to deal extra damage to the boss due to the applied Adaptation, visible by a golden hue on the boss's body. Dodge, hit, and retreat are the key steps to get you through the fight.
Do not let Pagurus build the fright bar.
If Krill is frightened, it will hide in the shell, move slowly, and not attack until the bar reverts. This will turn any advantageous situation into a big disadvantage as Pagurus can Aggro grab Krill easily during this state. The best strategy would be to run away when Pagurus jams his pincers into the ground.
Shell selection is important because Pagurus is particularly weak towards one. The banana peel shell is easily found in most early-game a﷽reas. If you find one, bring it to the boss encounter for an advantage.
Pagurus tries to eat Krill during the aggro attack. If you have the banana peel shell equipped, the boss will eat it, taking nearly 60 percent health damage. This is because Pagurus is allergic to bananas, and bringing this special shell to the boss fig൩ht will make ending Pagurus's life quicker.
