Last week, it was announced that Anthem is being taken offline, rendering the infamous BioWare game🐷 completely unplayable. Fans have been calling on EA to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:at least add a solo mode, with the option for P2P servers, preserving this misguided slice of gaming history, but those cries have so far fallen onඣ deaf ears. As such, some fans have changed their approach.

Take , who shared the , racking up a total of 642 signatures so far. Rather than joining the call for an offline option, they want EA to "release the server files,ꦉ or dedicated server binaries, as an optional DLC", ultimately passing the torch to the community to maintain the game.

Don't let EಌA or any other [company]෴ destroy games that we own!

It's an ambitious idea, but as many commenters were quick to point out, petitions like this never amount to much, and it's unlikely to get many signatures given🍸 how few people are left playing Anthem, let alone are big enough fans of it (even in its year of release, 2019,). "There is no saving Anthem," u/JM761 put it bluntly. "Guys, stop being delusional already, just move on," u/Marsindor added.

Stop Killing Games Could Prevent Future Anthems

A screenshot from the game Anthem. It shows a sci-fi soldier shooting a gun that is attached to their wrist. A huge battle can be seen behind them.

The petition might be naive, but in fairness, u/King_2780 also took this opportunity to highlight . While it's unlikely to do anything for Anthem, unless it's retroactive, if successful it would mean that publishe🐓rs can't make their games unplayable at the end of their life cycles, preventing future Anthems from happening.

My colleague Andrew King wrote a comprehensive breakdown on Stop Killing Games 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:that you can read here.

The general idea of the campaign is to make it illegal to publish games that players can buy and then lose access to. In the case of Anthem, there are no refun🧸ds being handed out: players are simply being locked out, with a dead weight left bobbing in their library. Stop Killing Games wants to stop publishers from doing that, and while it's unlikely to be passed in the US, the major push in the EU could have a knock-on effect as we saw with lootboxes.

꧟If you're going to sign any petition today, the Anthem one is probably a waste of your time. But Stop Killing Games is at least worth looking into.
