If there was one thing that Apex needed, it was another Gibraltar. I’m being sarcastic, and likely a little unfair to the latest addition to the games. As the newest character to join the ever-increasing roster in Apex Legends, Newcastle’s abilities are a m🍸ashup of Gibby and Lifeline (rememಞber her?), and he looks set to fill a unique, niche role in the game.
There’s also the added lore that comes with Newcastle’s arrival. If you don’t care about his familial relations, skip down a paragraph, but as Bangalore’s long-lost brother, he’s sure to shake things up. The gang from his Stories From the Outlands trailer, the Forgotten Families, are sure to have an impact too; what relevance do they have to Silva Pharmaceuticals or the Syndicate? I personally think the gang leader from this episode will be join 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Apex Legends in the future &nda🅠sh; that micro pistol he whipped out is an ability if I ever saw one – but that’s pure speculation on my part.
Speaking of abilities, let’s get to the good stuff. Newcastle has the best parts of Lifeline and Gibraltar – or rather, the nerfed parts of Lifeline and the best parts of Gibby – and we’ll go through it all for you herꦜe. Firstly, here’s his abilities in full:
Passive - Retrieve the Wounded
Using his wrist-mounted Revive Shield, Newcastle can protect himself and his companion from incoming fire while he revives and pulls his ally to safety. The Revive Shield is powered by Newcastle's own Knockdown Shield, so finding higher levels of this item increases the strength of this ability.
Tactical - Mobile Shield
Newcastle creates a hovering energy shield and can control its movement to adapt to the ever changing combat fronts of the battlefield. Advance the line, cover a retreat or turn the shield to guard against a sudden flank. The Mobile Shield's versatility and top/bottom shield projections give creative opportunities to the tactical defender.
Ultimate - Castle Wall
Drawing his signature shield from his back, Newcastle leaps into action and slams th🃏e shield to the ground activating the construction of a massive fortress to give him and his allies a strong defensive position. Enemies in its wake are knocked back and those who try to push through the energized wall are punished and slowed.
While Newcastle can leap great distances in a single bound with his Ultimate, it is even stronger when used to regroup. When targeting an ally, Newcastle can leap higher and farther than normal allowing him t🐷o heroically reach his companion and turn the tide of a fight.
As you can see, Newcastle’s Passive is like Lifeline’s old revive mechanic, putting up a shield while he revives allies. However, he’s got the added bonus that he can drag a downed friend to cover while rezzing, which is a little situational, but could come in clutch. The s🦄hield is the biggest part of this ability though, especially if you get a decent Knockdown Shield. Teamwork is key to maximise Newcastle’s Passive, so communicate with your teammates an✱d you’ll seize the day.
I would suggest that Newcastle’s Tacticaꦰl ability, like Gibraltar’s, is his strongest. The mobile shield is split into two halves, top and bottom, each with its own health bar that can be depleted to take down the protective cover. Obviously this is a one-directional shield, so movement Legends like Octane and Valk can easily counter it, but it has a quicker cooldown than Gibraltar’s Dome Shield, which is the obvious comparison. The 360 degree cover and unbreakable cover makes Gibby a better pick, but Newcastle could have some utility still.
Newcastle’s Ultimate turns him into a pseudo-movement Legend as he jumps to his allies’ aid. If your team is split and you need help, a Newcastle leaping to place souped-up Rampart walls between you and your opponent could be just what you need to turn the tide of💧 battle. This ability will take the most skill to utilise I think, and in the early stages of Season 13 we could see some interesting wall placements as players learn how to best use Newcastle.
I may be tempting fate here, but breakable, one-directional co༒ver makes me think that Newcastle might be a well-balanced Legend out the gate. He could turn out to be a jack of all trades and master of none, though, due to his abilities being situated between Gibraltar and Lifeline, rather than honing in on one specific skill.
