I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Olympus is not a great Apex Legends map. I’ll get into the nitty gritty details in this feature, but I’ve got nothing against its space age design - if anything, that’s what puts it ahead of Kiꦡngs Canyon’s prefab buildings or World’s Edge’s skyscraper cities. It’s in its function as a map for battle royale matches where it fails spectacularly.

In fairness, it’s not my least favourite 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Apex Legends map - Kings Canyon takes that title due to its condensed nature and the countless third, fourth, and fifth parties that come with it. But Olympus is in third place, even behind new entrant Storm Point. While 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Storm Point is probably too big, it somehow feels smaller than Olympus. There are no wide open spaces, you can’t sit on top of Grow Towers and snipe people rotating out of Orbital Cannon, Hammond Labs, Solar Array, and Gardens. Gravity Cannons make rotations quicker on Storm Point than the few Balloons dotted around Olympus, and there’s just more stuff to provide cover and block line of sight.

It’s the huge open spaces that make Olympus so bad to play for me. It 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:promotes using Valkyrie to rotate early with a sniper rifle to pick off teams running in with the storm - you’re a goner if you want to play edge. Plus, Storm Poi༺nt has Barometer, wh🅘ich might be my favourite hot drop in the game due to its size and verticality. There’s enough space for half the lobby to drop there, and you can still loot up fairly well and take a fight quickly. It’s not as crazy as Skull Town (rip) or Fragment East, where you’re lucky to find a weapon and will usually end up using a P2020 or your fists to fight off 15 other players while your Wraith who had her W-key glued down quits the game. It’s the perfect amount of looting and action, and the best place to start an Apex Legends match.

But this isn’t a feature about Barometer, it’s about Olympus. Olympus doesn’t haꩵve a Barometer. The hottest drops are at Estates, Gardens, or Hammond Labs, and none of them have enough loot to accommodate so many players descending on their position. You either get lucky with a Peacekeeper and R99, or you find three barrel stabilise🦂rs and die immediately.

There are some cracking POIs on Olympus, I’ll grant you that. Pathfinder’s boxing ring provides hours of fun when Apex is reduced to mandatory fisticuffs, and the multiple levels of Bonsai Plaza make it one of my favourite endgꦛame locations. But then there are others that don’t cut the mustard: the buildings in Rift are too dispersed and I’d rather drop straight off the map than land at Hydroponics. But even if you land somewhere good, you’ve then𝄹 got to risk walking through a huge open field for five minutes just to find a fight. If you’re lucky enough not to be sniped, the ring will pull in an unexpected direction and you’ll be forced to move again.

I’ve definitely got a bias towards World’s Edge thanks to being an 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:avid esports fan, but the Season 10 updates to the map were great. Wiping out Train Yard? Beautiful. Adding Lava Siphon, a sprawling area with cable cars? Stunning. The ♚Rampart Town Takeover that added Big Maude? A bit overpowered in tournaments, sure, but a fun addition to pubs. World’s Edge has been consistently and immeasurably improved with seasonal updates and town takeovers - much as Pathfinder improved Olympus - so how can the latter compete?

Rampart in Apex Legends

The biggest thing that needs to happen is the open spaces to get populated, but I can’t see that happening unless the giant plant that was shipped to the planet exponentially grows across the entire map. So, like I said, I can’t see that happening. I have a feeling that the Olympus changes will have something to do with the live event that occurred on Storm Point this weekend - if you didn’t know about that, don’t worry, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:I didn’t either - ♛as the weird blue electricity prickling around the ship looks similar to Wraith’s portal technology.

A small, crashed ship can’t be it though? If it’s got anything to do with newcomer Mad Maggie - which I’m confident it will - then explosio♍ns will likely follow. Is destroying POIs what I want to see? Not really, but I think it’s inevitable. They’ve landed ships before, after all, and ones much bigger than Maggie’s little cruiser, so surely it won’t happen again just on a smaller scale?

It’s hard to imagine how they’ll populate such an empty map, but I’m looking forward to trying out a new-look Olympus whatever Res🤡pawn changes. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for an asteroid shower peppering the open fields with space-cover or an alien race setting up twenty colonies of small buildings across the map, but I’ll just be happy wit﷽h more loot at the hotter POIs and maybe some Gravity Cannons in edge locations. Surely that’s not too much to ask?
