Smash legend Adam “Armada” Lindgren is set to miss Genesis this weekend after he was unable to locate his passport and secure passage to the US for the first major tournament of the year. One of the fabled “Five Gods,” Lindgren has been a staple of the Smash community since Melee and continues 🧜to be a major contributor to the meta, but any hopes of winning a third Genesis title has been lost alongside his passport.

Though Armada has won multiple tournaments and gained notoriety among the community, he has made it a point in the past to make it to each Genesis event since attending the first tournament in 2009. Armada previously won back-to-back Melee tournaments in 2016 and 2017, with the 2017 win being his last major win, and while the extent of his participation is unknown, Armada was likely to participate in the Ultimate tournaꦫment as well as taking on commentating duties for the weekend-long event at the Oakland Convention Center.

“Genesis is more than just a tournament for m𝓀e so it really sucks to miss out due to losing my passport,” Armada said via Twitter. “Extra sorry to @Ge💮nesis_Smash that also hired me for commentary,” he added.

While it is unfortunate that a living legend of the Smash community will not be able to attend, Armada has been on the downturn for the last three years, and his competitive career seems to be coming to an end. Armada won both Genesis and EVO for Melee in 2017 but failed to place in a major tournament since. In 2018, Armada announced his retirement from singles play in Melee. He also hasn’t seen his success transition to Ultimate, where his most recent placings ♎have seen him eliminated early and often.

Then again, his contributions to the community are transitioning, with his game play taking a back seat to his content creation and commentating. Armada serves more as an ambassador for the Smash community, keeping him𝔉self visible and presentable by creating content and managing his Twitch channel.

Nevertheless, Genesis will not be the same without one of its hallow🌄ed competitors missing the big🦋 weekend.
