If you are feeling lost and hopeless as this flying monstrosity shreds you, fear not. Not only is the AH12-HC-Helicopter (AH12 for short) beatable, but once you have a winning strategy, you'll probably find that this initially troubling opponent becomes pretty manageable. This fight is a lesson in using your environment and choosing the right weapon for the right job. So, follow this guide and claim victory for yoursel𒉰f!
AC Loadout
This is the only boss fight in the game that will have you fight a boss without having the ability to swap out AC parts. This means that you will be fighting the Attack Helicopter with a middle-of-the-road, Bi-Pedal AC. As for weapons, you will have a Pulse Blade, an Assault Rifle, and a ♌Missile Launcher on the shoulder. Each of these weapons will serve an important role in this battle.
- The Pulse Blade is your primary source of dealing damage
- The Assault Rifle is your primary means for maintaining stagger damage
- The Missile Launcher is the best way to deal damage at range
Make sure to be hammering that Missile Launcher button (as long as you are locked on), as firing those missiles does not hinder your mobility. On the other hand, you never want to take a swipe with your Pulse Blade unless you are certain you are in range. That attack has huge recovery and will leave you extremely vulnerable.
AH12-HC-Helicopter Attacks
During this battle you will face three primary attacks from the AH12. We'll break them down the best way to deal with each attack below.
Machines Guns
The AH12 has multiple machine guns strapped to it. While this is the AH12's weakest weapon, they are also its most consistent source of dealing damage. They seemingly never stop firing, and you will only be able to shake them momentarily. However, they can't circumvent the environment, and they can hit you if you are above or behind the AH12. You can easily dash through these with your Assault Boost.
Rockets
These fire from the bottom of the AH12. They are extremely powerful, but they don't have any homing capabilities. Either use the environment as a shield, boost dash to the side, or ascend. If you are in the air as the AH12 fires its rockets, just stop pressing the boost button and allow yourself to fall to the ground. This will cause the missiles to sail right 🌜past you.
Homing Missiles
The AH12's missiles will fire out from its side and converge on you. Since these missiles have homing properties, getting behind large segments of the environment will only provide sporadic cover. Your best solution, instead, becomes dashing toward the helicopter. This will cause the missiles to miss you. If the AH12 is close by, use the Assault Boost to dash in and hit it with your Pulse Blade. If they are farther away, you will want to use your Quick Boost. That will be more than enough to skirt by those missiles.
AH12-HC-Helicopter Battle Strategy
The first thing you are going to want to do is to leap into the air as the AH12 gets close to the battlefield. Hover mid-air, and once the AH12 enters the arena, use your Assault Boost to dash in and land two Pulse Blade swings. You will always be able to land these two attacks without any fear of reprisal, so every time you restart make sure to attempt this, as it gives youꩲ are massive head start.
One thing to keep in mind is that the hellacious Helicopter is able to dip in and out of range. Since you don't really have great weapons for fighting it fair and square at range, you are going to need to use the environment to your advantage.
One of the most frustrating elements of this fight is that the AH12 can leave the arena and go where you can't. We strongly recommend not exchanging fire with the AH12 when it is outside of the arena. Thankfully, if you take cover, the AH12 will tend to return to the center, which is right where you want it.
Sometimes the AH12 will leave the arena when it is nearly staggered, while this is frustrating, you are probably going to have to just let it recover, as you really don't want to get into a firefight with it.
Now, once you have the chopper in view, use your Assault Boost to dash in, and hit the helicopter with your Pulse Blade. This will do a considerable amount of damage as well as severely affect the AH12's stagger meter. It is important to perform the Blade slash as you are performing the Assault Boost, as this will increase the damage of your Pulse Blade attack!
The Assault Boost is the dash that you perform by pressing the left stick in as a button on the console versions of Armored Core 6. Don't confuse it with the much shorter Quick Boost here.
Now, while your ranged weapons don't really do a meaningful amount of damage when the AH12 isn't staggered, these weapons serve another purpose: while your Pulse Blade is recovering, they can be used to maintain the stagger damage. Once your Pulse Blade is ready again, dash right b🤪ack in and land another combo. It should only take two of these to stagger the AH12 if you are able to keep the helicopter from recovering stagger.
If possible, try to get the AH12 as close to being staggered as possible with your Pulse Blade, then finish it off with your rifle or your missiles. That way, when it is staggered, you can land another Blade combo, which will deal even more damage.
Boss Strategy Summary
So, to summarize, your primary strategy is to get close enough to the AH12 to dash in and attack it with your Blade. You will be able to land one of these for free at the very beginning of the battle. Once you hit the chopper with your Pulse Blade, you will maintain pressure using your ranged weapons in order to prevent it from recovering its stagger meter while simultaneously taking cover.
Ideally, the attack that staggers the AH12 will be your missiles or your Assault Rifle, allowing you to deal direct damage with your Blade while the AH12 is staggered. After unloading everything you have on the AH12 as it is staggered, you will return to skirmishing with it once it has fully recovered. You will return to taking cover behind buildings (dashing toward the helicopter when it fires its missiles at you),ꦉ and looking for an opportunity to land another Pulse Blade combo from out of your Assault Boost.
You will be able to kill the AH12 in two to three staggers. While this strategy is simple enough in🏅 theory, in practice the sneaky fast mobility of the AH12 will likely require you to repeat this bᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚattle multiple times. However, stick to it and you will down this pest, at which point the game will start proper!
