The game does offer answers, some deceptively simple while others a bit more convoluted.

Who Is Basim?
In essence, Basim has two identities. One is his most well known, Basim ibn Is'haq, is a member of the Hidden Ones working mostly iಌn the Arabian Empire between the years 861 and 877.
The Hidden Ones are an organization that would later evolve to be the Assassins order we know today.
As stated, Basim has another identity: Loki, a reincarnated Isu from times before humanity ruled the world. This Isu used the supercomputer Yggdrasil to🦹 store his essence and reincarnate as human eons late𒆙r.
Loki wasn’t the only one that used this device, however, and he’s now in a quest for revenge against Odin, an Isu that used the same method for survival.
There are plenty of Isu in the Assassin’s Creed mythos, all being referenc♎es to gods and legends from human history.
Previous entries mentio🌱ned c꧟haracters from the Greek pantheon, while current entries are focusing on the Norse one.
But Basim wasn’t always aware that he was a reincarnation. As a young orphan, he wanted to join the Hidden Ones because he was inspired by their fight against injusti⛦ce. His skills as a 𒁏thief, and willingness to prove his worth, would lead him to become a valuable member of the order.
Once he became a Master of the Hidden Ones, Basim began to explore his own past, since he had always been tormented by nightmares. In them, what he understood to be a Djinn haunted him in a sea of sand. To understand himself fully, Basim traveled to a temple unde🅺r Alamut at the behest of the Hidden Ones leader, Qabiha.
It’s here that Basim learns that his nightmares, and the Djinn within them, were repressed memories trying to come out. Only by accepting them could�ꦏ� he be whole again, and these memories were of his past life as the Isu Loki.
With the old memories came old grudges, and Loki began to plan his revenge against Odin, who had banished his children, and trapped his lover Alethei🦋a in an artifact kno🃏wn as the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus.
Is The Basim In Mirage The Same One As In Valhalla?
Yes, they’re one and the same. Mirage takes place mostly in the year 861, while Valhalla takes place between 872 and 878. So, while Basim ends Valhalla trapped in Yggdrasil, Mirage is a prequel, so that’s not an issue. Yet, Mirage also offers a glimpse into the future⭕ of Bas🌸im.
Being in a sort of stasis, Basim manages to free himself from Yggdrasil in 2020. Once out, he’s reuniteꦺd with his lover since he gains control of the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus.
He’s also finished his revenge somewhat, since Odin’s reincarnation is long dead. All that’s left for him is to find a way to reunite with his offspring.
