At Gamescom this year, we were invited to a unique preview of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Assassin's Creed Shadows. Instead of taking a look at 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:its combat and stealth,𝄹 Ubisoft gave us an extensive bre🦋akdown of the technology bringing the game to life, and there was a lot to go over.
The theme of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is realism. This was hammered home constantly in the presentation, 𒁃which showed off various environments from bustling towns to tranquil countryside. To accomplish this, Ubisoft wants almost every part of the game to be dynamic, with lots of moving parts reacting to each other to create a living, breathing feudal-era Japan.

Developers don’t want clouds to just spawn in - they want them to be created by humidity in the air. They don’t want every sword strike on a plank of wood to look the same, they want to show exactly the kind of damage you’ve inflicted. They don’t want to create identical wind animations, so there’s an entire system for that too. Like I sಌaid, there was a lot to go over.
We were shown numerous examples of💎 this dynamic design in action, as the town that Yasuke walks through reacts to wind in the air and the strikes of his sღword. We’re told that NPCs will react to these systems too, but there was so much to focus on beyond this - the town certainly felt alive.
During the presentation, we were told that developm❀ent on Assas🏅sin’s Creed Shadows began four years ago, and was always planned to be💃 next-gen exclusive.
But Shadows isn’t just a looker. Some aspects of these dynamic systems will also affect gameplay. F❀or example, we were told that enemies get cold in the winter, and storms will affect stealth segments. The team hopes that the difference between playing on a clear or rainy day is so pronounced that it adds to replayability, although it’s hard to say if this is the case without playing it ourselves.
Assassin's Creed Shadows Looks Great, But Is It Worth It?
As Ubisoft boasted of all of the n𒆙ew technolo♌gy going into Shadows, I was left with a question that was never answered: will we actually notice, or care, when we play the game ourselves?
Even if we don't, that doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t worth the effort. But in some instances, does it really matter? Is there a great difference between a tree in a video game that flows in the wind on a repeated loop, and one that blows in a different direction every time? Is Assassin’s Creed really the best series to showcase this technology in, when we’re going to be rushing past so many of these visuals to chase quest markers anyway?
In the demo we were shown, the player usually stood still or walked far slower than we will in the actual game. Of cou🥂rse, the aim is for all of these little things to add up and create something beautiful - and they do. But how much should go into creating a beautiful mosaic that players won’t step far back enough to appreciate? I don’t know if any sacrifices had to be made - there wasn’t a Q&A section after the presentation - but if so, what are🀅 they? And were they worth it?

As Ubisoft started listing more accolades for Shadows towards the end of the presentation, we were told that there would be no pop-in. This would be a tall order for any game, let alone one as ambitious as Shadows. However, it was then added that there would be no pop-in for assets that aren’t dynamic, of which it seems there are very few. This isn’t to say that we saw any pop-in during the (admittedly curated) footage in the presentation, but it remains to be seen how this fares at launch, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:especially with t🐈he Xbox Series S to consider.
In any case, Ubisoft is promising a lot with Shadows, even adding that it’s the “most ambitious” open world in terms of this technology. From what we saw, it is certainly visually stunning, and the dynamic systems all work as intended. I’m interested to see if these questions are a🔯nswered when Shadows launches in November.
