When the first 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Assassin's Creed was released in 2007, no one could foresee just how huge the series would grow to become. But after more than a dozen mainline games and just as many spin-offs, it has grown into one of Ubisoft's most successful franchises. Between all those games and spin-offs, it has managed to weave a tale that traces human history across thousands of years.
Central to that story is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the ongoing conflict between the Assassins and the Templars, two opposing groups with differing ideologies that date back to historic times. And at the forefront of that conflict lie ancient artifacts created by a race known as the Isu. But who or what exactly are the Isu and what happened to them? We'll be answering those questions and more in this deep-dive into their race.
Note: There will be spoilers for revelations made over the course of the Assassin's Creed series ahead.
Unknown Origins
The Isu was an ancient civilization🌟 of humanoid beings who existed and ruled the Earth prior to the human race. According to in-game lore, they were also known as the First Civilization, the Precursors, and Those Who Came Before. Not much was revealed about their precise origin, although they are believed to be a product of thousands of years of evolution.
While humanoid in appearance, the Isu possessed abilities that dis💝tinguish them from humans. For example, they had a higher intelligence that enabled them to build advanced technology far outstripping that of humans, as well as superhuman strength and reflexes, and they could live much longer than humans due to their triple-helix DNA. They🌊 were also blessed with precognition that enabled them to telepathically communicate with others across both space and time.
Because of their abilities and accomplis🐭hments, they were worshipped as gods throu🌠ghout human history.
The Pieces Of Eden
The Isu is primarily known for creating the Pieces of Eden, powerful artifacts central to the overarching plot of the Assassin's Creed games. They were also responsible for creating humans, who they'd created for the sole purpose of serving as a domestic workforce.
Using the Pieces of Eden, the Isu were able to control the thoughts, emotions, and behavior of humans through the neurotransmitters engineered into their brains. This allowed them to keep humans completely subservient to them throughout most of their reign. To the humans, the Pieces were seen as magical in nature, allowing their masters to perform all manner of feats they couldn't explain otherwise. This would in turn give rise to several well-known myths that would grow to become a part of human history.
T♏he Pieces themselves came in various forms and held different functions. For example, the Apples of Eden had the power to control the minds of humans, as well as project illusions, while the Swords of Eden could shoot out blasts of energy and had been wielded by notable human leaders like King Arthur and Genghis Khan.
The War With Humans
The Isu would rule the Earth for 77,000 years, during which time they continued to advance their race while keeping humans subjugated. But their rule would eventually get threatened when interbreeding between the two species would give rise to hybrids that weren't susceptible to their mind control.
Eve was one such hybrid, and together with Adam, she had stolen an Apple of Eden. Led by Eve, the humans would rebel against the Isu's rule, in a war that lasted more than a decade. The humans had the advantage of numbers, while the Isu had to fall back on their advanced technology. But while both races were engaged in war, they'd failed to look to the skies where another kind of danger was looming.
The Great Catastrophe
Also known as the First Disaster, the Great Catastrophe was a cataclysmic event that occurred around 75,000 BCE, or in 2306 of the Isu❀ Era. It was caused by a coronal mass ejection, a type of solar storm wherein the sun releases plasma and a strong magnetic field - and the Isu had only noticed the approaching m🌞agnetic field during the war with the humans.
In a race to avert the forthcoming disaster, several Isu scientists working inside the protection of underground vaults tested a total of six different countermeasures, none of which were successful. So, the coronal mass ejection had hit, which flipped the polarity of the Earth's magnetic field, exposing it to the full blast of the Sun's radiation. The Earth would burn for several weeks as a result, wiping out significant portions of both the Isu and human populations.
Aftermath & Legacy
The devastating blow of the Great Catastrophe would leave both the Isu and humans in a dire sta🐻te. And in that dire state, they saw a need to put their differences aside and work together to rebuild their respective civilizations, bringing an end to the war. They also needed to come up with an adequate countermeasure for any future coronal mass eject🌸ions, the next of which was projected to occur in 2012.
Over the years, the Isu's numbers continued to dwindle even further, as humans grew to become the dominant species on Earth until the last of the Isu would eventually die of old age and their memory would fade into myth and legend. All that remains of their civilization are the various underground vaults that were built ahead of the Great Catastrophe, and the Pieces of Eden left behind that the assassins and templars have been fighting over.
