Whether you're a Norse Myth buff or you just love the story of , you must have a favorite god among those in the Norse Pantheon. Upon playing this game, you'll know that the gods aren't who they appear to be. In fact, they might not even be initially aware of their godhood until later in the game.
Throwing morals out of 🧸the window, some gods and goddesses in the game are🍎 interesting characters who at times, feel more human than god. Based on continuity and importance to the plot, these deities make the game a better experience.
9 Suttungr
Suttungr is technically the OG god, and he has survived through many names. In this lifetime, he became the King of the Jotunheimer. He becomes an essential point of the plot since he stores the much-needed mead in his halls, which we could only obtain through a chain quest. He's also very welcoming at first before you affront him and your schemes are revealed by Loki, of course.
Despite being a longstanඣding survivor with great n♕ames that would be later talked about in history, his greatest contribution to this installment would probably be a pretty good boss fight.
8 Hyrrokin
She might not be the goddess you'd think of when you think of the best since she's completely against humans and is planning a major vendetta against them. It's all understandable since she does operate in fear of how they would usurp god-kind, and how she's witnessed an important god being killed by a human before her eyes.
But she's not The Mother of Wisdom for nothing, and overall, Hyrrokin serves as a great antagonist in the story. She motivates you to get mead from Suttungr for her own personal motives.
7 Freyja
Despite how she reincarnated in the game as Svala and how she was reduced to mostly silence due to being able to see visions she could no longer comprehend, Freyja was a dutiful and capable leader. This dutiful nature seemed to have carried on in he💎r life as Svala, as she is th🌼e mother of Valka the seer who mostly helps Eivor make sense of their dreams and visions.
Even if she decided to retire the way she did in simulation Valhalla, it's well-justified when you think about all she's seen and been through. After all, there's nothing wrong with wanting to live in the glory of your youth forever.
6 Thor
We can't go without mentioning Thor in this list, especially when he's reincarnated as the strong and reliable Jarl Halfdan. We have to commend how similar they are to each other, both having a short temper and an impulse for battle. The only difference is that Halfdan is more cautious around the company he keeps, but he is merciless to betrayal all the same.
While it's great that Thor was able to upload his data in Yggdrasil, it's even better that we get to choose him as an ally through Halfdan depending on our choices in the game.
5 Angrboda
The Mistress of Iron Wood has survived many incarnations, as she was formerly Aletheia, whose consciousness was stored in the Staff of Hermes. She🍷 attempts to kill you after making you go through an elaborate quest of finding a root crop, which is pretty based when you take into consideration how you imprisoned her son. She responded the way any furious parent would when she found out that Odin kept her son captive.
She does get plus points for being a gentler god for not wanting to participate in the slaughter of the human race. Morals aside, she was smart for acknowl♔edging the fact that humans will find ways to outlive the gods.
4 Fenrir
Fenrir, in both past and present, played a large role as the main antagonist. He's driven Odin's quest for changing fate with cruel means, which is something that could have changed if Fenrir was treated better. Not only is Fenrir central to the story and has a decent boss fight, but he's also just a poor wolf in the wrong place and wrong time.
He's shown that confinement for doing absolutely nothing wrong breeds resentment, and how escaping your fate by taking cruel routes might help you fulfill the fate you're avoiding.
3 Loki
With his cunning nature, it's no secret that Loki lived long and eventually found the means to be reincarnated. Cold exterior and callousness aside, he was a man who loved his family and was willing to do anything for their survival (whether in this current lifetime or the next). This gave him an eye-for-an-eye outlook since his son was imprisoned by the god he swore his allegiance to.
His reincarnation remained ironically as important in Eivor's life as an ally, and he retained much of Loki's interest in knowledge.
2 Tyr
Tyr isn't hard to like with how sound his judgment is and his loyalty to Odin. This trait of loyalty did transcend time as he remained faithful to his allies in his next life as Sigurd. Despite having been betrayed by Odin, which cost him his arm, Tyr didn't show resentment for it as he thought that it'd be the only way to stall the threat of Fenrir.
Though Fenrir did grow as a threat, he also acknowledged that the captivity of the wolf may have been the cause of its fostered hatred towards the Aesir. Tyr's ripped arm was an important part of the story, as it makes sense of the earliest vision of betrayal Eivor had regarding Sigurd's torn arm.
1 Odin
Morals aside, Havi is just a god who's done their best to escape fate on multiple occasions. You might not agree with Odin's methods of cheating the Nornir's prophecy, but Odin did what was possible to somewhat escape it and help the other Aesir upload themselves in Yggdrasil.
Not the most likable god despite his role in his next life as somebody more likabl𓆉e, but Odin did what he could to survive — even if it came with many other casualties, whether it be foes or allies.
