PS5 and Series X can both run Assassin's Creed V💫alhalla at 60fps, but that's not the end of the next-gen story. When quickly changing scenes and rapidly moving the camera, you'll notice a considerable amount o🦩f screen tearing, and it's significantly worse on Xbox Series X.
A new video fro🍃m Digital Foundry shows off the graphical hiccup. If you're not familiar with the term, it's simply when your display shows multiple frames in a single screen draw. In layman's terms – some objects on your screen won't line up properly. Maybe there's a tree whose trunk is off by a few pixels, or a character's torso is a few inches to the left of the rest of their body. It's not unique to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but Digital Foundry's analysis shows that it's a bigger issue here than they would have hoped.
🍎During Valhalla's cutscenes, PS5 and Series X both experience a bit of screen tearing. However, the amount of tearing and position of tears is much worse on Microsoft's console. Not only are they more frequent, but they happen right in the middle of the sꦫcreen, making it easy to spot the graphical glitch. Skip ahead to the 10-minute mark to see the screen tearing in action:
One of the best comparisons actually comes at the 12-minute mark, when the video shows off the first boss battle of Valhalla. Once you've finished, Eivor walks over to an open door – dropping the game to it's lowest bound resolution on both consoles. Howe๊ver, Series X can only run the scene at 53fps compared to PS5's steady 60fps. There's also plenty of screen tearing happening on Series X, while almost none is occurring on PS5.
Oddly enough, Series S performed better than Series X in terms of tearing. It only runs at 30fps, but it seems to be more consistent than its powerf𓆉ul sibling. Of course, it's also running at a lower resolution, but it's odd to see that Series🎀 S might actually offer a better playing experience – thanks to reduced tearing and more consistent frame rate.
