Scot Amos, co-head of Crystal Dynamics, desperately tried to explain why Spider-Man will be a PlayStation exclusive character in Marvel's Avengers.
With the timer quickly counting down toward 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Marvel's Avengers' release date and beta weekends, fans are anxious for new announcements and leaks. This week's accidental reveal left two-thirds of fans disappointed as they discovered that Spider-Man would be a free DLC character, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:but onl♉y on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
This news sadly doesn't come as a surprise. Sony has owned the rights to Spider-Man since 1999, and their actions during 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:last year's fight with Marvel Studios showed fans that the company is committed to ensuring that they always have the final word in where Peter Parker appears. The developers for Marvel's Avengers, Cr🍌ystal Dynamics, have come under fire from angry fans after Sony confirmed the leak earlier this week.
Co-head of the development studio, Scot Amos, discussed the exclusivity with Sony during . Unfortunately, the interview was ridden withജ meaningless corporate lingo that boils down to, "Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man."
Amos said, "So the beauty of Spider-Man, and what Spider-Man represents as a character, and as a world is... Again, it comes back to the relationship with PlayStation and Marvel, when it comes down to choices of𒆙 where and what Spider-Man can be, that's a relationship question that PlayStation absolutely has the rights to, that as you guys know, with Sony's ownership there, and Marvel with Sony saying, 'Hey, this is something we can do. This is something we can do on this platform."
It sounds like Sony was more involved with Marvel than they were with Crystal Dynamics when it came to this decision. It is possible that Spidey being exclusive to the PlayStation versions of the game was a direct result of the compromise the two companies made last year. Tom Holland is still able to be Spider-Man, and only PlayStation owners get to play as him in Marvel's Avengers.
Amos went on to say, "in general, we're making this game for everybody... We want this to be the place you get to play those superhero fantasies out with your Avengers team, that continue growing with new characters, characters you ain't even guessed at yet, that are going to come to this roster down the road, and new regions as well. So I am very exc♈ited for what the future holds for everybody on all platforms."
The team at Crystal 🦂Dynamics seems to be reluctant to have Spider-Man exclusive. I would guess that they want him to be available for all fans. It's sad that exclusive content to this scale is still happening in 2020. It felt like these sort of tactics were behind us heading into the next generation of consoles.
We know that Hawkeye will be coming to Marvel's Avengers sometime after the game's launch, and Spider-Man will land in early 2021, but nobody knows the schedule for releases of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:any other characters. I am most interested in ꦰAmos' impl𝕴ication that there are DLC characters that nobody has guessed yet.
What fans should be most concerned about in regards to this exclusive deal is how Spider-Man's inclusion will affect plot developments as the game grows older. Marvel's Avengers will be a live service game, meaning it will receive 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:addi🌳tional content at a consistent rate after the game's launch. With that being said, Spider🐭-Man can't really tie in to story content after he is released, as these story missions would also be available on Xbox and PC. This seems to have been the final nail in the coffin of crossplay for the game.
Marvel's Avengers' PlayStation 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:beta weekend starts on A🍰ugust 7, with the first beta weekend for other platforms following on Au✱gust 14.
