Wooden Barriers - Marked With Swords

Breakable wooden barrier in Avowed

The first barrier is so simple you probably don't need us for it, but the article is called Complete Guide not Mostly Complete Apart From The Stuff You Can Figure Out Guide, so here we are. Any blockage marked with a sword, which will usually be some wooden slats, can be broken simply by attacking it. Job done.

Breakable Walls - Marked With Explosions

Breakable Wall in Avowed

The much tougher melee barriers come in the form of brick walls, usually with a brick or two missing, and marked by an explosion icon. These can be knocked down by a power attack (fully charging before releasing) with a melee weapon. However, this only happens if you have unlocked the upgrade Built To Destroy from the Fighter skill tree.

Webbing/Brambles - Marked With Flames

When you encounter webbing or other miscellaneous barriers in Avowed, they will have a flame symbol on them if they can be destroyed. You need to burn them t🍌o destroy them, for which you have three options.

  • Use Kai's Firestarter ability
  • Use a fire spell
  • Throw a flaming projectile like Magran's Fury

Iron Gates - Marked With Snowflake

When you encounter iron gates that bring up a snowflake symbol, that means you can destroy them too, by freezing them until the metal shatters. The obvious way to do this is via an icy projectile like Eye of Rymrgand, but you can also cast any Frost spell yourself. None of your ꦯcompani𒈔ons have spells to help here.

Power Switches - Marked With Lightning Bolts

Sometimes, the barriers aren't actually barriers at all, but are just locked doors. If a door just says Door with a lock, that usually means it needs a power switch. You will see an orange shield above it, or some metal wiring. Follow this wiring to a gold button (which is sometimes through a crack in a wall). Shoot this with electricity to turn on the switch and unlock t𒁃he door. This can be done...

  • Through Giatta's Spectral Jolt ability
  • With a Shock spell
  • By throwing an

Pink Barriers - Marked With A Swirl

Pink Magic Barrier in Avowed

The hardest barrier is the one that glows pink - this may be a specific pink panel over an entrance, or may be rocks that glow with eerie pink essence. Either way, these are impossible to move yourself, as none of your spells work on them. You will need to recruit Yatzli in Shatterscarp and then use her Dispel Illusion ability to move the rocks or drop the barrier.
