Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is one of the best video games ever made. Combining great storytelling with an immersive open-world and a complex fighting system helped make this one of the better games to come out in the last decade. As good as any game is though, it's always fun to be able to mix things u✱p with mods.

Sadly, Shadow of Mordor is a notoriously difficult game to mod meaning that there aren't too many options when it comes to freshening up the experience. It is possible to play around with the game's visuals, however, and there are one or two quality of life mods as well, but there's plenty more 🎀that we'd still like to see added in to the game.

Updated January 21, 2021: Thanks to its fantastic nemesis system and the other innovative ideas it incorporates, Shadow of Mordor remains an incredibly enjoyable game despite now being almost seven years old. For those who've been playing the game since the very beginning, however, it's likely starting to feel a little stale. Thankfully, there are a few great mods out there that can really help to breathe new life back into this classic title.

10 Best: Morlut ReShade🏅

The Morlut ReShade preset for Shadow of Mordor

While Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor certainly looks b♍eautiful, it's always nice to be able to switch things up a little from time to time. After all, when a player puts dozens, if not hundreds, of hours into the same game, the scenery can begin to feel a little repetitive. That's were ReShade comes in.

Most of the colors in Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor are very muted and ꦫreflect the barren wasteland that is Mordor. For those growing weary of dull grays and muted blacks though, makes all of the game's colors far more vibrant and its world feel just that little bit more alive.

9 🔯 Would Love To See: Uruk C♔ustomization

The game does a great job of randomly generating Uruks to the point where you're never going to see two that are exactly the same. Dependin💯g on their strengths though, defeating them can often be far too simple. A customization option would help to rectify this problem.

Whether it's a case of giving all of the captains the 'deadly' trait to make them st🐟ronger or granting them invulnerability to certain attack types to make them tougher to topple, being able to customize Uruks would completely change the game. Being able to change their names could be fun too.

8 𒊎 Best: Cinematic Doom ReShade

For many people, Peter Jackson's fantastic Lord of The Rings trilogy was thei𒈔r first real venture into the realms of Middle Earth. The stunning scenes found throughout the movies really helped to bring Toklien's world to life and helped to breathe new life into an ageing franchise.

With that in mind, it's perhaps not too surprising that some players sought to recapture the tone and atmosphere of the movies with the help of ReShad🐬e. There are a few of them out there, but  is easily the best of the bunch when it comes to that genuine filmic feel.

7 Would Love To See: Model Swaps 🍸

Given that there is a model for Sauron already in th🍷e game, it's incredibly frustrating that there is no simple way to swap it in for Talion'🍎s. Playing as the Dark Lord would be incredibly fun and completely change the feel of the game.

Likewise, playing through the game with an Uruk skin would make the game's nemesis system far more enjoyable and also allow for some great role-playing escapades. Sadly, however, extracting models from the game is a lot more challenging than in some other titles and so we're unlikely to ever see any model swap mods for Shadow of Mordor.

6 🌊 Best: Toggle HUD ꧟

There are many reasons that people play video games, but perhaps the chief among them is immersion. It can be difficult to become fully immersed in somethi💛ng though when things like health bars and other HUD items are constantly on s🌱creen.

One of the mods developed for Shadow of Mordor remedies this problem, however. When using , players can actually turn on and off their HUDs at will. This m♒od goes a l🙈ong way toward helping players get completely lost in the world of Mordor.

5 𝓀 Would Love To See: A Blood Mod

Many games go a little too far when it comes to their implementation of blood and gore, but ꦑtꩲhere's an argument to be made that the team over at Monolith didn't go quite far enough. Weapons regularly clip through enemies without leaving a mark and even direct blows barely seem to scratch them.

We don't need fountains or anything, but being able to see the true force and impact of Talion's blows would definitely be nice. Given the gam꧑e's high ES♋RB rating though, it's actually a little surprising that the developers didn't at least add the option for more blood themselves.

4 Best: New Game Plusꦰ

Main character with half side lit up in Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

The new game plus feature is one of the most popular video game modes to come out in the last decade or so. Unfortunately, at the time that Shadow of Mordor was first released the ꦐnew𝔉 game plus trend had not quite hit the mainstream gaming market yet.

While the retail version of the game does not include this feature though, that doesn't mean that it's absent from the Shadow of Mordor experience entirely. Thanks to , players can now start🧔 the game with enough stat points to unlock all of the game's skills and a host of other things to give it that new game plus feel.

3 Would Love To See: A Difficulty Mod 𓆉

One of the biggest problems with action oriented games is that once you've mastered their combat, they are no longer able to present much of a challenge. Many developers get around this by providing players with difficulty settings or a new game plus mode with tougher enemies, but these things are noticeably absent in Shadow of Mordor.

Those who care more about story likely aren't too bothered by this, but players who enjoy being tested by their games have very little recourse as things stand. A mod to increase the game's difficulty would not only restore the challenge, but also make the game more replayable for those who still aren't quite ready to move on to Shadow of War.

2 Best: Cinematic Mordor ReShade 🌠

There are several great ReShade presets that allow players to completely transform the way that Mordor's rugged landscape appears, but none are♊ as impressive as . There really is no batter way to play this game.

Different objects are made brighter, images sharper and colors stand out much better on the screen. If you do decide to use mods while playing Shadow of Mordor, be sure to add this one to your list.

1 Would Love💯 To See: An Uruk AI Mod ⛦

Shadow of Mordor Combat

One of the grཧeat things about Shadow of Mordor is that it accommodates a wide variety of play styles and provides players with choices when it comes to taking down captains and warchiefs. Sadly though, these foes aren't particularly good at adapting to players' tactics as time passes.

Cranking the AI sliders for Uruks would not only make combat more challenging, but also force players to mix up their approaches and carefully consider the best way of reaching their targets. Having them flee to more protected areas oꦇf Mordor would also be a welcome addition.
