Baymax brings a new classification to the game, Robot, along with some great new Inventor synergies that can give Robots and other glimmers a boost on the board. You read that right, Lorcana is doing Robots vs. Pirates with Disney’s borrowed Marvel heroes and the ‘90s' most iconic afternoon cartoon. I continue to be astonished that this game is even real.
There was speculation that Big Hero 6 wouldn’t be part of Lorcana because of its ties to Marvel. Now that we know that isn’t the case, it's a good time to remind everyone that we don’t know anything about the intricacies of Ravensburger and Disney’s licensing agreement, and it's best not to make any assumptions.
One of Lorcana’s biggest keys to success is that it’s a TCG for everyone. Its appeal reaches a wider range of demographics than any other card 🧜game, and the way Ravensburger drives inclusivity through the gameplay, products, and events is a major factor in its popularity. At 🦩the same time, I can’t stress enough how much Azurite Sea feels specifically made for me.

The Secret of Monkey Island mad𒐪e me fall in love with pirates, the Rescue Rangers were on TV afterschool every day, and three of my four favorite Disney characters are Baymax, Sisu, and Stitch - and Azurite Sea features all of them. Stitch is actually one of the mascot characters, and the new Gift Set includes a pirate Stitch promo and a binder covered in all the different versions of Stitch featured in Lorcana. If you run down my list of interests and favorite characters, this set starts to look like it could have been called Things Eric Will Give Us All His Money For. If Powerline shows up in this set, I’m ruined.
The Magic Of Disney Lorcana Is Everlasting
This is part of what makes Lorcana so special. The Disney IP, the strategic complexity of the game, and the incredible depth of Ravensburger’s creativity give it a broad appeal that so many different kinds of players and collectors love. At the same time, I have a deeply personal connection t🍎o this specific set that is unique to me. Other people will have different characters and themes they connect to, and the longer Lorcana goes on, the more sets will emerge that people have specific and passionate connections to.

Azurite Sea Expands The Lore And World-Building Of Disney Lorcana
I’m thrilled about the small taste of Azurite Sea we’ve seen so far, and not just as a pirate/Baymax/Sisu/Stitch love𒉰r. There’s some fascinating world-building happening in the background of this set that reveals more about the world of Lorcana, like the maze of waves that rise out of the sea to impede our heroes’ journey, and a familiar location from Lilo & Stitch, the Galactic Council Chamber, that has been transplanted and reimagined as floating fortress in the ocean. In these early days, exploring the world of Lorcana is just as exciting as discovering what new characters are coming soon to the game.
It helps that Azurite Sea ech🅰oes Into the Inklands, too. Lorcana’s adventureful third set is still regarded as its strongest by many players, and Azurite Sea feels like the nautical counterpart to its more landlocked fair (though we did get a couple of deeܫp-sea divers back then, too). That connection bodes well for the meta too, which was at its most diverse and exciting during the Into the Inklands era.
Lorcana’s second year is a real test of the game’s long-term viability. The initial hype of launch has died down, the scalpers and speculators have moved onto their hustle, and as the card pool grows, expectations around the balance and complexity of the game grow with it. But every new reveal gives me greater confidence in the future of the game. There’s just so much creativity and care poured into every inch of every card to make Lorcana the best it can be, and unless that suddenly change♊s, I can only see the game getting better and better. As long as Stitch keeps showing up, so will I.
