Not that I didn’t feel out of my depth, especially as I was tasked with defeating three foes who all resided in the same space and would take some serious firepower to take down, either that or a ludicrous number of lucky dice rolls.

Despite this challenge and the amount of freedom the first act appears to offer however, it did feel like I was brushing up against invisible walls or the game itself was holding back. So far, the only locations of vast consequence are the aforementioned camps and grove, with other villages either being burnt down or fi𝄹lled with pests. Every step is a cautious one, but it quickly becomes clear that I’m protected.

You are given multiple ways to resolve every conflict, almost as if the game is trying its best to stress that while violence is a perfectly applicable 🥂answer, there is more fun to be had off the beaten path. Baldur’s Gate 3 does an exceptional job of offering dialogue options for whatever class or race you chose, most of which can turn the tables in surprising ways.

After I built a pile of boxes, barrels, and tables I was able to climb upon them and sneak inside. All because I bothered to consider where I was and what I could do in the given moment. But I don’t feel scared or paralysed by choice like I expected to༒ be, because the past 20 or so hours have been spent teaching myself the ropes even if it felt like I was failin✅g all the time. But in failing I was learning all the tricks of the trade I’d eventually need to go at it on my lonesome.
