168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Baldur’s Gate 3 thinks it’s pretty slick, don’t it? I have drifted further and further apart from Wyll as the game has gone on, partly because we share the same class and other companions offer more variety, but mostly because I find him very, very boring. As a result, my party at any given time has always been myself, Karlach, and any two others who aren't Wyll. I also accidentally killed Halsin, but that's a whole other story. Don't worry about it. In any case, despite Wyll being dull, he's central to a key quest. That I could live with. But now it turns out he's a crucial part of two. I'm sorry, but that just won't stand.
When I wrote of my general dislike of Wyll's do-gooder, holier than thou demeanour, the character I most frequently compared him to was 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mass Effect's Kaidan. The pair of them are both Good Guys whose best quality is being a good person and whose second best quality doesn't exist. They're nice, virtuous people who become hard to care about because they have no flaws to relate to. Both have a hidden depth to their backstory, but both take too long to draw out, Kaidan especially.
A bunch of nice guys who deserve to finish last
But Wyll may actually be more like my second least favourite Mass Effect character, Jacob. In Mass Effect 2, Jacob is the first character you meet, and thus accompanies you on the first two missions. This second mission sees you recruit a new companion, and from then on you never take Jacob anywhere again. He's more beholden to militaristic duty which you'd think would give him some kind of hook to stand out, but, like Wyll and Kaidan, he only thinks in terms of Doing The Right Thing and thus has very little going on.
Apart from his loyalty mission. Mass Effect 2 works on a repeated loop, where you first meet a bunch of new friends, then turn them into best friends by helping them with whatever their biggest problem in life is. For half of the crew, this problem is daddy issues, and Jacob is no exception. Jacob believes his father to be dead, but suddenly picks up an old distress signal as the ship drifts deeper into space. You follow up on the lead and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:find one of Mass Effect's darkest stories.
Jacob's father and his crew have crash landed, and find themselves with low food supplies. The planet they are on only has toxic vegetation, which lowers brain functions. In order to ensure food lasts until help can arrive, Jacob's father decides to split the crew. He and his fellow officers will eat the supplies, and the lower level soldiers and other crew will survive on the vegetation. This turns them into brainless drones, and the women among these soldiers are then scheduled out to various officers in a harem of 'pets', as the game puts it, but I think you can use your imagination from there.
This is one of Mass Effect's strongest missions, even with Jacob alongside you. Likewise, my standout quest in Baldur's Gate 3 is Avenge the Drowned, which is made all the stronger by the fact it doubles up as a rescue mission for Duke Ravengard - Wyll's father. It's not actually recommended that you take Wyll on this mission, however, as the mission limits the amount of turns you can make. I took myself and Shadowheart with Dimension Door and Jaheira with Misty Step to get around faster. A more considered approach would have been to swap Lae'zel in for Karlach too, but whatever I did, I wouldn't have taken Wyll.
That's all fine and good. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Avenge the Drowned is a standout, but most of the characters get a great mission to personalise their story. Wyll, however, gets two. After freeing Duke Ravengard, he will tell you about the Wyrmway, wherein you learn about the history of Baldur's Gate (and Baldur himself) while fighting against an undead dragon. It's one of the most cinematic fights in the game, as well as being a crucial link to the overall story, and to the history of the setting itself. And for some reason, it belongs to Wyll.
Down in the Wrymway, there's a special Trophy you can get for 168澳洲💟幸运5开奖网:winning the fight i🥃n a very particular way...
Again, I naturally didn't take Wyll here (Lae'zel and Gale this time accompanied 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:my inseparable pairing of Tav and Karlacܫh), and the deeper the story goes, the more detached from him it becomes - it is linked to saving Duke Ravengard rather than a personal quest for Wyll. It's not like Shadowheart confronting her deity or Astarion taking on his captor. But it is still, officially, a Wyll mission. Baldur's Gate 3 keeps throwing reasons for me to care about Wyll, but none of them are sticking.
I know a lot of people like Wyll, and, having played the whole game as a warlock, I know he has his uses. But he's too nice. I thought nice guys finish last, but it turns out nice guys get two climactic Baldur's Gate 3 quests instead.
