The First Time Astarion Drinks Your Blood
When you wake up to Astarion's blood-drinking attempt, there are a few choices you can ma🧔ke.
- Kill him: If you're not particularly attached to him or don't plan to keep him in your party, you can stake him through the heart on the spot. You'll need to make a DC 14 Strength roll to puncture through.
- Reject him: Of course, the interaction doesn't have to end in violence. You can simply tell him no, and he'll slump off into the woods to find something he can eat. If you decide you can no longer trust him, you can tell him to leave the party for good.
- Let him feed on you: You also have the option to let him have his midnight snack of your blood, which has a few further DCs, as outlined below.
A few seconds after the bite, you'll get the choice to tell him to stop with a DC 15 Persuasion check or push him away with a DC 7 strength check. Both options will knock him back to his senses.
He'll thank you in his own Astarion way before stalking off into the woods to hunt for a side dish. You can also stop him by staking him through the heart. Again, this will require a DC 14 strength roll.
You will have two chances to either tell Astarion to stop drinking your blood or to push him away. If you let him continue more than once, he will get a little overzealous and drain you dry.
Should You Let Him Kill You?
When it comes to games, death is rarely the answer. However, in this case, it might be. When you let Astarion drink your blood, you'll wake up with the Bloodless debuff. Until you long rest again, you'll have a -1 on all checks.
The only way to avoid the debuff is to let him kill the character. You can always use a the next morning or pay 200 to have Withers bring you back to life. You'll also get extra 🙈approval ꦕpoints from Astarion.
Approval Points
There are some merits to taking the risk and letting Astarion drink your blood. The first is that it will put you on his good side. Astarion is notoriously hard to befriend, let alone romance. However, not treating him like a monster when he approaches you about his conওdiꦑtion goes a long way.
You will get massive approval points for trusting him enough to let him drink your blood.
Happy Buff, Explained
If you plan to make Astarion a permanent part of your party, you should consider letting him suck your blood for the Happy buff. This buff will add a +1 to all his checks. He will also permanently gain the Vampire Bite action in battle.
Letting him snack on opponents will give him the +1 Happy buff, and he'll regain 2d4 hit points. The target of his bite will take 2d4 piercing damage. You'll also gain a dialog option that will allow you to offer your blood at night when you camp. You won't get another꧂ cut scene, bu𒉰t he'll have the Happy buff in the morning, and you'll have the Bloodless debuff.
