I’m not one for multiclassing. I’ve not played many CRPGs before – multiple playthroughs of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Disco Elysium, stumbling through the first act of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Divinity: Original Sin 2, and the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader beta are my only forays before Baldur’s Gate 3 – and I’m only midway through my first ever 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons & Dragons campaign. I know, the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Warhammer guy has never p♔๊layed Dungeons & Dragons before, but consider this: have you ever tried rounding up a party of friends every week?
My point is that I’m keeping my first 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough simple. I’m a drow ranger, I’m not going to multiclass, and magic is fo𓄧r chumps. But as I entered Act 2 of Larian’s phenomenal RPG, I began embracing the most forbidden form of magic: chronomancy.
For those of you who don’t know, chronomancy is the art of manipulating time. While th🤡ere are no time travelers in the𓆉 game (so far), there’s this little button combination that allows you to become a master of timelines. F5, F8. Quicksave, quickload.
I promised myself I’d never become a save scummer. Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game about making decisions and facing the consequences. And I’ve done that. I killed Minthar๊a before even speaking to her because Halsin told me to and I will do anything druid dad🍬dy says. Then I realised she could be a companion, another drow beside me. But I stuck by my decision.
I did the same in the Underdark, despite 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:wishing Shado♐wheart could h🐬ave been there for all the Sharran goodness. I didn’🦋t reload a previous save and take her on a spiritual journey, I just promised to show her the world going forward.
I haven’t even save scummed any important die rolls yet. I’ve been really good, promise. But as soon as I walked into the deadly mists of the ෴Shadowlands without a torch to my name, I took everything back.
Initially it wasꦯn’t so much save scumming🦩 as rage quitting. I Alt-F4ed right out of the game, and loaded up the next day. Oops, I forgot to save after the cursed fog had eaten all my health. What a shame.
I rectified my error, and proceeded on with the game. But with one (arguably accidental) save scum behind me, I started to use that dreaded F5+F8 combination more often. Did you know that saving after you&rsquo🌳;ve rolled a d20 allows you to reload to the moment before the die has been cast? I found this out online, and while I haven’t stooped that low yet, it’s likely only a matter of time.
Tip: Mess up something in Baldur's Gate 3? Reload your save!
It was when researching save scumming techniques that I came across the term chronomancy. I’d like to say I uncovered it in a dusty old tome housed in a dilapidated library, but in reality I heard it on Reddit. Is that the least cool thing I’ve ever published? Possibly. But in this era of the internet, where answers are obfuscated by SEO bloat and forum communities are on life suppo🎀rt, it’s often the best place to go to find like-minded people who also want to come to terms with the fact they’ve embraced save scummery and want to lie to themselves about what they’ve done for a little bit longer.
Anyway, chronomancy is my Baldur’s Gate 3 multiclass. I’m a Rogue/Chronomancer now. See? It sounds so much cooler than saying, “🌞I reload old saves when I can’t face the repercussions of my poor decisions”. And I want you to know that I’m not reloading every decision. Some things go badly and I accept my fate. Some things have unexpected consequences and I embrace them. But on the few occasions where I really, really wanted a specific outcome, one that I would not be able to replicate on a second playthrough, I’m not averse to whipping out my chronomantic wand and waving my failure away.
I like to use it꧂ like a regular spellcaster would – I get three chronomantic spells per long rest. The trouble is, there are no downsides to resting a lot, so realistically I ge༺t as many spell slots as I could scum a save at.
I’m not going to tell you to embrace chronomancy; as cool as the title sounds, I still feel guilty every time my finger hovers over F8. It’s not the intended experience, it undermines a lot of the power of your decisions, and therefore I’d use it sparingly, if at all. But if something really doe✨sn’t go your way, never forget there’s a keybound spellcasting class for you.
