Like Larian's previous game, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Divinity: Original Sin 2, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Baldur's Gate 3 lets you either make your own main character or choose from some pre-written, pre-designed origin characters. If you don't play as any of the origins, you'll find them later on as companions - and possibly even love interests - which is how most of us have come to know them.

With all six of them proving so popular, some fa💮ns are going back to play through the game as their favourite 𓄧companion, only to leave feeling quite disappointed. Some players feel that the origin characters are lacking in original content, making them far less compelling than they would be as an NPC. Further still, some fans say that origins should not have been a feature at all, and these characters should have been left as companions.

From Astarion's character development to Karlach being lesbian-coded, here are the highlights of the Bal💃dur's Gate 3 cast panel at EGX 2023.

For anyone in need of a refresher, there are six pre-designed origins to choose from: Lae'zel, Astarion, Shadowheart, Gale, Karlach, and Wyll. The seventh origin, The Dark Urge, is customisable and not a companion, although still features a pre-written story that the player can influence like the rest. Few complaints have been made about this origin, but the same can not be said for the others.

"Unpopular Opinion: Playing an Origin Char is Terrible," reads a on the Baldur's Gate 3 subreddit, courtesy of user webevie. Here, they explain that, despite being such a huge Astarion fan, they are disappointed with his origin playthrough, feeling that he lacks the personality and conflict that attract so many to him when they play as custom characters. They're particularly disappointed by the lack of voice lines, since this means hearing less of Neil Newbon's performance.

Others in the replies agree. "It&rsquo💙;s no coincidence that most of the posts/comments about origin characters are about them as companions, and most player posts are about Tav/Durge," says wasted-degrees. &qꦰuot;By playing an origin character it seems like you basically forfeit the majority of their content."

ForkingBrusselSprout shares their own experience with this, as their brother played as Gale, and they played as a custom charact🌳er. "We were talking about Gale as a character and my brother realized how much he did not know about Gale at all," they say. "Like for example he failed to understand that Gale was [an] actual lover fꦇor Mystra, not just her chosen. That huge power imbalance in Gale’s and Mystra’s love story completely went over his head."

Baldur's Gate 3 Gale Absorbing Artifact

Much of this seems to be due to the fact that players can't sit down and have a conversation with themselves about their character's past. However, this wasn't always going to be the case. In early game footage, player characters were seen talking or thinking to themselves, with each origin character - and even Tavs - having a kind of internal dialogue. Much of this was recorded before negative fan feedback saw the feature scrapped. Now, all of the characters' personalities are communicated through their dialogue options, leaving us with fewer opportunities to get to know the origin gang if we're playing as one of them.

Still, we have Tavs and Durges to create, so there are plenty of ways to experience the game without playing as an origin character. Just don't expect to love playing as your favourite companion, as you might be disappointed.
