168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gotham Knights is a game where Batman is dead, except he’s definitely not. WB Montreal’s latest project is entirely separate to the Arkhamverse - check out 168澳洲幸运5𝄹开奖网:Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League for a kinda sorta continuation to that - and instead seeks to tell a different Batman story, post-Batman, where Batgirl, Nig🐠htwing, Robin, and Red Hood come into the spotlight. It’s a fantastic premise, there’s just one problem - there’s no way the capeꦰd crusader is actually dead.
Batman isn’t dead in Gotham Knights. I never really believed he would be. A Batman game without Batman sounds interesting, but the people who make the decisions for games - especially licensed ones - don’t care about what’s interesting. They care about money. Obviously, the developers, writers, directors, and artists care about what’s interesting. But the peo🌳ple who wear suits in the office above them, the ones whose only writing contribution to the game is a signature on a contract, they care about money. Oh boy, do they care about money.
Batman makes a lot of money. That’s why there’s a Batman movie every three or so years, why DC is still making Batmaไn games while so many other heroes wait patiently in the queue, and why even your nan knows who Batman is. It would be interesting to see a Bat൲man game set post-Batman, but it would pose a financial risk. I still think it would sell, for the record, which is why Gotham Knights is flirting with the idea, but Burger King is always going to sell burgers. Batman’s in the damn game.
This happened last year with Captain America in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Marvel’s Avengers. Hopefully that’s the only thing Gotham Knights has in common with Square Enix’s failed live-service game, but itꦜ was obvious from the start that Cap was actually alive and well. Despite all of the marketing around Cap’s death, all the statues in his honour, we knew he was alive. Special edition skins for him and a dedicated tutorial in the opening gave the game away a little bit, but even without that, we all knew. With Batman, it’s the same th🥃ing.
It could just be through flashbacks, sure. But I’m burying the lede a little here. I, along with so many other people, have long suspected Batman would actually be alive. It is a 𒅌Batman game, after all. Recently though, Batman’s aliveness (look, y𓃲ou figure out a better way to say it) was all but confirmed. Court of Owls, one of Batman’s best and most underused villains, will be the big bad cabal of Gotham Knights.
𓆏The Court of Owls story is based ൩around Batman faking his death, and that’s exactly what he’s doing here. In the immortal words of that dude from Frankenstein, he’s alive!
That doesn’t mean Gotham Knights will be bo𓂃ring. Batman’s four protégés still believe he is dead. Just getting to play as those four without Batman overshadowing them introduces some interesting narrative strands, and means a lot of different play styles without Batman clearly being the best. Batman’s aliveness (get used to it) will be a plot in the background, probably with him emerging at the perfect moment. Maybe we, as players, will be able to see these machinations in the background, or maybe it will be a totally unsurprising surprise.
The Court of Owls story from the perspective of those Batman has ‘left behind’ is a fascinating idea. I just hope the game doesn’t hinge on the biggest twist that anyone with a) knowledge of the Court of Owls or b) sense can see coming a mile away. There is so much more to this game. It’s telling a post-Batman story, even if Batman is definitely definitely definitely still alive. It would be a shame for that premise to be thrown awayಌ just for Batman to end up stealing the late game show.
