A giant tornado engulfs the entire map, and from a nearby skyscraper, dozens of players decide to put aside their differences and their rifles to parachute into the whirling chaos. It's exactly the kind of thing you can expect to see when 128 eager shooter fans hop into the new chaos you find in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Battlefield 2042 - aꩲnd while the spectacle makes for some really exciting and engaging moments, how long that feeling will last is another question entirely.

Battlefield 2042 is going all-in on bombast. While previous games have flirted with scale and destructibility, they've never before been combined like this. Battlefield maps haven't had a significant level of carnage in a long time, even though it was once one of the most eye-catching aspects of the series. In 2042, walls are blown out of buildings to make cheeky new routes, entire areas explode, and tornados engulf the island. The ‘levelution’ mechanic makes a grandiose return here, with not just walls being blown apart, but huge landmarks that make an impression on the new Orbital Map, gone in an explosive instant.

While respawning, I could see from the overhead map view that explosions were happening near the rocket. I spawned on a nearby team only to find the team leaping from the peak of the launch tower as the rocket itself detonated like Elon Musk's own crafts - and relationships. These moments are practically unforgettable and leave a strong lasting impression. It's the kind of thing that makes you believe that anything could happen in this game.

Once an hour or two has passed though, you'll quickly begin to realise the limitations. For example, those exploding rockets didn't even do any damage to me, despite the fact that I was in the thick of it. When helicopters and jets are flying overhead bombarding you with bullets, they don't even tend to do all that much damage - and once you're in a helicopter yourself, you realise how awkward aiming those big guns can be when the pilot can't keep the thing steady for even five full seconds.

In general, my experience being within vehicles is similar to other Battlefield games. My flight skills just aren't good enough to manoeuvre helicopters and jets through tight spaces, and sitting in the gunner's seat is cool at first, but if you have a poor driver then your performance is going to be held back - add to that the fact that the guns on the vehicles don't appear to do all that much damage, and you've got an experience more tedious than exciting.

While the only mode we had available to play was the 128 player Conquest - a mode limited to 64 players on last-gen systems - it was the perfect introduction to Battlefield 2042, showcasing the scope of the battles they wish to create. Having said that, it's odd that my most intense and enjoyable moments happened in close quarters. In Conquest, you and your incredibly large team must control Sectors, which are huge portions of the map. Hold areas for long enough, and you'll gain points. It's familiar to shooter fans, it's simple, and it's forgiving for people who just can't stay alive for longer than a minute - which means I appreciate it especially.

But across those long-distance enemies looked like ants, and as a result, it's within these sectors that I truly felt alive. Dodging and weaving between trucks, tankers, and more, all of which can blow up with a few explosives aimed my way - and it was excellent. When I was able to stay ahead of my opponents as they charged towards my sector, I felt in control and powerful. At other times, I felt confused and bored.

This is a natural problem that arises with a game this big and frantic. It's very easy to ignore the sectors which earn you points and get caught up in trying to take down a chopper or hunt a pesky sniper hanging out on a tall building. But often these diversions don't end well, and before you know it, you've been running through the wilderness alone for several minutes. The map is so big it's necessary to stop and take a look at the lay of the land for a moment, just to think about where you can focus your efforts.

But one certainty is that this is Battlefield back on form. The battles are huge, and the destructible maps give a fresh feel to what could otherwise be seen as a fairly standard large-scale shooter. Battlefield 2042's lush world looks beautiful, and as long as you're with a team that sticks together, the hours of combat will feel like mere minutes. Just don't get lost in the bushes like I did.
