DICE is renaming a skin in Battlefield 2042 that "unintentionally" references a term used in𒈔 the R🥃usso-Ukrainian War.

Battlefield 2042 differentiates itself from previous games in the series by letting you use Specialists instead of generic soldiers,꧑ with each one in the game coming with different skins for customisation. , One skin belonging to the Specialist Boris, Little Green Man, has caused outrage within the community for being perceived as a reference to masked soldiers in the Russian Fede♚ration.

"Little green men" is a term used to describe masked soldiers of the Russian Federation in unmarked green army uniforms, usually seen to be carrying modern weapons. Theꦿ term came to be used for Russian soldiers during the occupation of Crimea in 2014, which is considered to be the catalyst in the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine that are still ongoing to this day.

The skin in Battlefield 2042 puts Russian Specialist Boris into a green arm🍨y uniform, with many players considering this to be too on-the-nose to be a mistake. After players spoke out against the skin and its offensive terminology,

It said, "Today you helped inform us about a name we use for a Skin in Boris' Mastery Tiers. It unintentionally references a real-world issue, and isn't reflective of our team's values. We'll be changing the name in a forthcoming update, and appreciate it being brought to our attention."

The account also replied to a few specific players raising the issue, , "We sincerely appreciate you bringing this to our attention. The use of the name was unintentional, and you've helped us to make a positive change in the game. Thank you".

Although DICE claims that the reference was "unintentional", many players remain sceptical about the use of the name, as it's a pretty clear-cut reference considering which Specialist the skin applies to and considering what Battlefield is all about.
