My lone wolf sniper class is improved by allowing me a method to take down vehicles. I’m pretty sure it was a surprise to those Hovercraft bad guys: never in Battlefield history has a ghillie suit wielded Semtex. But squad diversity and teamwork is also impacted by having four finely-tuned loadouts rather than your typical Battlefield classes. Do you and your buds want to run snipers but still be stocked with a rocket launcher, health p꧃acks, and ammunition? Now you can.
That being said, I understand the complaints. The Battlefield formula has been relatively unchanged for the past 20 years. You’re worried about the identity of the Specialists and the potential ‘meta-game' of one Specialist, one gun, one gadget. They’re going to ruin teamwork, it doesn’t ‘feel’ like Battlefield, and you miss the classic combos of the sniper and their claymore, of the engineer and their repair torch. The community's list of complaints grows and grows, but what else is new?
These complaints aren’t baseless. This is a completely new direction for Battlefield, and new directions often lead down some bumpy paths. It’s a long drop down into the pits of a generic hero-shooter. My biggest gripe during playtesting was not knowing who was who - back in Battlefield 2, where my journey with the series began, it was easy to tell who was a sniper, who was a medic, and who was about to blast you to pieces with an LMG. Now eac🃏h player is a vague clone of each other. EA’s gotta sell skins like the sun’s gotta rise.
The Specialists also remove much of the teamwork the series is known for. Once upon a time, you could play Battlefield and do very well without e🌳ver having to shoot your gun. A reliable medic out on the field could earn thousands of score points and be vitally important to the success of the team. The same can be said for supports and their ammo crates. Neither of these is really needed 🏅anymore, as you regenerate health, vehicles repair themselves, and you can carry an ammo box as a sniper if you want.
But consider the Specialists in context. Portal, the game mode that fuses several Battlefield experiences into one, can exist wi𝔉thout Specialists. You will still be able to play 2042 the classic Battlefield way. You should view Specialists as what they’re designed for: total, unbridled chaos. Wingsuits, medics with sniper rifles, and Spider-Man-style grappling hooks, as someone swings in from nowhere and throws C5 on top of your truck. There are absolutely zero restrictions on the way you want to play the game. 64 players vs 64 players, and you’ve got no idea what you’re about to face.
The Specialists are ridiculous, and that’s their greatest strength. In terms of the many problems with Battlefield 2042, t💎he classless system is quickly becoming something people are less worried about. There are some core issues with the game such as the size of the maps, extreme balancing issues, and the lack of key features like a scoreboard, but Specialists are designed for you to have fun with. Rather than ruin my experience, they’ve made some of the Breakthrough matches actually enjoyable.
