The bartender of the Gates of Hell, Rodin is a weaponsmith and one of the most mysterious characters in the franchise. While on the surface he appears as an ally to Bayonetta by creating weapons for her, it's alluded to several times that he has an insane amount of power.

Whether he's casually popping down to Inferno (which he calls "the tropics") or getting hit on the head by a giant object and not flinching, Rodin is clearly not great at hiding his strength. Cool and charismatic, Rodin's signature move is lighting a cigar with fire from his thumb and blowing out the smoke while uttering his iconic catchphrase: "Beautiful!"

The Merchant as he appears in Resident Evil 4

Whenever Enzo isn't running up his endless tab at the Gates of Hell, Rodin apparently has some off-time to play video games. Occasionally he will reference a quote or even be in the middle of playing a game when Bayonetta drops by to purchase items. In one instance, Rodin will quote the merchant from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:asking Bayonetta "Whaddya buyin'?" before adding he "heard that in a game once."

On another occasion, he will mention that he has to sprinkle some magic powder on a chicken, which is a reference to an easter egg found in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past (Hideki Kamiya's favorite Zelda game). Rodin even seems to be aware of the PlatinumGames catalog, telling Bayonetta he won't "put a chainsaw on [her] arm" like the protagonist of MadWorld.

8 Rodin Canonicallyꦆ Knows About Smash Bros.

Rodin as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

When scanning Bayonetta's amiibos into the Nintendo Switch ports of her games, Bayonetta can receive certain rewards along with a note from Rodin. In the note, Rodin mentions to Bayonetta that something came in from her fight club. He also asks that she brings him along next time because he could use the sparring practice.

This is a case of foreshadowing Rodin's inclusion into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an assist trophy (Bayonetta 2 on Switch released in February 2018, Smash Bros. Ultimate released in December). This note also implies that Super Smash Bros. is canon in the Bayonetta universe since Rodin is aware of Bayonetta's inclusion in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U.

7 🎉 ❀ Rodin Is Playable In Tag Climax

Though some hardcore Bayonetta fans might know that Rodin has a secret boss fight, some might not know that Rodin himself is actually playable. After unlocking and completing Verse Card 53, Rodin will꧑ become playable in bo൲th offline and online play.

He is the most difficult character to unlock due to the sheer amount of Verse Cards that must be completed before he is available, and has his own moveset that is far different from Bayonetta, Jeanne, or Balder's. His attacks hit harder than the witches do, though he generally moves slower. He can shoot lasers from his eyes and can create a shield to repel incoming enemy attacks, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:which replaces t💞he Witch Time mechanic.

6 Rodin's True Forms

Father Rodin in Bayonetta (left) and Demon Rodin in Bayonetta 2 (right)

When Bayonetta purchases the Platinum Ticket at the Gates of Hell, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rodin initiates a boss fight. In the first game, Rodin will revert to his former self, Father Rodin. In this form, Rodin is once again the Ruler of Paradiso, carrying the title of The Infinite One. Appearing in attire similar to Balder's, Father Rodin's halo is the same as Jubileus's, meaning he is Dea or higher in the Hierarchy of Laguna.

In Bayonetta 2, the Infinite One returns but with a different form. In the first part of Rodin's boss fight, he will appear in his regular clothes, but when his health is depleted he will change into a demonic form. This form 🐼is💧 much larger than Rodin normally is, and he uses it as his "Umbran Climax" in Tag Climax.

5 Rodin's Name Origins

Rodin's name is historic in the worlds of angels and demons. It is derived from the French sculptor Auguste Rodin, who is responsible for the famous Gates of Hell sculpture. This sculpture was an homage to The Divine Comedy, a long poem by Dante Alighieri. In the poem, Dante describes his journeys 🦹through the different layers of the afterlife, including heaven (Paradiso), purgatory (Purgatorio), and hell (Inferno).

Rodin's sculpture depicts a six-foot-tall intimidating doorway that is meant to be the very gates Dante traveled through. While working on the piece, one quote from the poem especially came to mind: "Abandon all hope, who enter here." Bayonetta's Rodin says a similar quote when he is fought or played as.

4 🎐 ꦫRodin Is The Most Powerful Character In The Series

Rodin saying his catchphrase "Beautiful" in Bayonetta

According to PlatinumGames, Rodin is the most powerful character in the Bayonetta franchise and possibly the entire PlatinumGames universe. Though players can beat him as either Bayonetta, Jeanne, or Rosa, it appears that Rodin's sheer strength is unmatched. When fighting alongside him aboard the Insidious in Chapter Ten, Rodin is able to use instant-kill attacks on even large enemies such as Pain.

If Rodin is the most powerful character, it also begs the question as to why he doesn't accompany or assist Bayonetta in her efforts to save the world more often. After all, with a title like the Infinite One, Rodin should be even more powerful than Aesir, Jubileus, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:and Queen Sheba combined.

3 Rodin Almost Had A Differ♍ent Name

Rodin Mephisto concept art in Bayonetta by Mari Shimazaki PlatinumGames

The PlatinumGames team almost took the Rodin character in another direction before the release of Bayonetta. According to character designer Mari Shimazaki, Rodin was almost named Mephisto, after the demon Mephistopheles from German legend. Mephistopheles is notable in the legend of Faust, where the demon makes a trade with the titular character; his soul in exchange for power. Shimazaki's vision for Bayonetta's Mephisto ended up being different.

Originally, Mephisto would act as a big brother type to Bayonetta, an artist who enjoyed playing records and admiring antiques. Though this didn't end up being in the final version, Rodin's connection to music still remains through the Golden Hymns LPs.

There's a prize for players who are somehow able to defeat Rodin in both Bayonetta games. After a brief cutscene where Rodin spites Bayonetta for beating him, he hands over the Rodin, which appears to be a set of halo arm braces. The Rodin is a weapon that emulates the various temporary weapons that enemies drop after a torture attack or boss fight.

Different combos with Rodin will activate different angelic weapons without fear of wearing them out. In Bayonetta 2, the brace allows the use of temporary demonic weapons as well, such as Resentment's whip or Hatred's scythe. The design of the ಞRodin is slightly changed as well to represent this addition.
