This risky departure from the core franchise ultimately left fans a bit disappointed. First of all, by sheer concept, an RTS game would be far outside the series’ established demographic of gamers. Unfortunately, in trying to appeal to Halo and RTS fans alike, neither will be satisfied.

There isn’t an immersive adventure for the former, or enough detailed strategy for the latter. The short, repetitive campaign is balanced out by atmosphere and decent level design. The art is dazzling, and the gameplay itself can be addictive. Fans are also allowed a glimpse of Earth, offering invaluable context. In fact, all of the environments improve on the original’s copy-paste 💧habits, with new art design that’s equally intriguing. The conceptual scale is enormous, with dual-wielding, Scarabs, ODST, and more. The game essentially doubles down on every strength of its predecessor, with superb innovation. 2 ℱ Halo: Co﷽mbat Evolved - 97

This was the transformative shooter that really introduced an entire generation to Bungie. The Master Chief is a no-nonsense, indelible hero, in a massively influential universe. The Covenant ar💧e an inspired enemy for something so simple as an alien invasion. Their AI is charming, with distinct behavior and neat design.

The Halo itself is a fascinating place to explore, with sweeping landscapes of grassy hills and snowy expanses alike. The characters are memorable, the level design is ♒iconic if occasionally redundant, and the lore is brimming with imagination. Best of all, its rich, fulfilling world developed an entire community.

After two straight hits of such colossal proportions, there was plenty of pressure to round out the trilogy with a satisfying finale. And although it reined back on the cutscenes🍸, this goal was ultimately achieved. It certainly feels like a natural extension of its predecessor, spending less time with innovation to successfully tie up loose ends. The story is straightforward and action-packed but still finds the poignancy when necessary.

It was undoubtedly a fitting conclusion, with more than🦩 a few standout levels and gorgeous new graphics for the 360. Every facet of production fired on all cylinders, from music to multiplayer gameplay. The sandbox and custom games alone could allow this game to endure timelessly.
