With the announcement that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rome: Total War Rema🐻ster𒈔ed is on its way, we're taking a look at some of the best features of the original Rom🎉e: Total War from almost two decades ago. The cities in R: TW were historically accurate for the most part, but there were always cities that you waಞnted to aim for early on because of their in-game advantages.
Depending on where you started, you might want to take Carthage as quickly as possible to get access to the high-end buildings early on or conquer the rest of the Mediterranean to make as much coin as possible. Here's a nostalgic journey back in time to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rome: Total War.
10 Carthage, T꧒he Carthaginians
Modern Day Tunisia
In the default Rome: Total War campaign the Carthaginians are at war with everybody. Everybody. The Romans, the Greeks, the Egyptians. Luckily, Carthage starts꧃ with Carthage (obviously) which is already an economic powerhouse at the beginning of the game.
It beg𒈔ins as a 3rd level city, one of the largest in the game, and has access to a wide range of military units from the very beginning. You can even build elephants here. The Carthage campaign is a notoriously difficult one because the Romans want Carthage. Who wouldn't?
9 𒀰 ꦓ Alexandria, The Egyptians
Modern Day Alexandria
Alexandria is Egypt's largest city at the beginning of the campaign and is si♚milar to Carthage in terms of size and economic output. It also has the added benefit of the Pharos of Alexandria world wonder, which halves the chance of ships sinking at sea and increases how far ships can move.
Located in the rich Nile Delta and with access to the trade routes throughout the Mediterranean, Egypt has one of the best starting l𒆙ocations for a dominant campaign. In terms of military, Egypt has a good roster of varied troops from each tree.
8 💧 Syracu🌼se, The Greek Cities
Modern Day Syracuse
Located on the island of Sicily, with Romans to the north and Carthaginians to the west, Sy♚racuse is one of the starter cities for the Greek faction. It starts with large walls and a decent income, as well as the buildings required for some decent troops.
It's an early target for the Scipii Roman faction and it can be difficult to defend the city against the early rush. Thankfully, it is possible to train Spartan H♚oplites in Syracuse, which are undoubtedly completely broken when it comes to defending narrow city streets.
7 Corinth, Macedꦛon 💮
Modern Day Corinth
Corinth starts out in the hands of the Macedonian faction, although the city is usually besieged early on by the Greeks. It starts with stone walls and a decent economic foundation, as well as a port that links to the rich Mediterranean trade routes. It's an area of the map that was 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:later explored in A Total War: Saga.
Seasoned veterans of Rome: Total War's campaign remember Corinꦅth fondly. It's probably the very best city on the entire map, because of the Statue of Zeus. This world wonder increases +4 bonus to population loyalty🦄 in all settlements, a metric that notoriously hard to handle as cities get larger.
6 🎃 Halicarnassus, Rebel
Modern Day Bodrum
Halicarnassus begins as ꦯa fairly well-defended Rebel settlement in Rome: Total War. It begins as a rebel settlement because during the era of the Rome: Total War campaign it was still governed by a King while many other Greek city-states had changed to a form of proto-democracy🃏.
This city is another valuable position because of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. The world wonder reduces building co🌠nstruction times by 20 percent for buildings that take less than 5 turns to build, an essential early game buff to establish big cities as quickly as possible.
5 Rhodes, The Greek Cities ♏ ౠ
Modern Day Rhodes
Rhodes is an island settlement just south of Halicarnassus. It begins under the control of the Greeks which provides access to the Colossus of Rho🌄des. This enormous statue that, according to historical sources, stood acr♓oss the port at Rhodes, increases overall naval trade by 40 percent.
Considering ports are economic🍸 powerhouses in Rome, this World Wonder is amazingly strong. It should be a priority for any nearby faction, including the Seleucids, the Egyptians, the Romans, and of course, the Greeks.
4 Seleucia, The Seleucids 💜 ꦡ
Modern Day Baghdad
Seleucia is the city that replaced the ancient city of Babylon, located in the sprawling Seleucid Empire. It beg♋ins as a fairly large city and is the🧸 capital of the empire.
The biggest benefit of this city is the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, a world wonder that provides a massive 20 percent bonus to farming income in every held settlement. For factions that rely a lot on farming in the early game, particularly the Egyptians and the Nile Delta, should focus on conquering Seleuc🎉ia as soon as possible.
3 Sardis, Seleucid 💯
Modern Day Sardis
Sardis was the ancient capital of the kingdom of Lydia and was considered on🌞e of the most important cities in the Persian Empire (the Seleucids.) It begins as a Seleucid settlement in Rome: Total War with a small(ish) garrison of hoplites.
It also provides the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, one of the se𒅌ven World Wonders in Rome: Total War. This wonder reduces the cost of new religious buildings in all settlements. Sardis is worth taking early-on when playing as the Greek Cities.
2 Cor𓂃duba, The Ca𝄹rthaginians
Modern Day Cordoba
Corduba is located in Southern Spain, the only foothold the Carthaginians have on the Iberian peninsula. Barbarian factions, such as the Spanish, canno🌃t build Stone Walls, so it's also the most heavily fortified city in the area. It's the ideaﷺl starting point for a Carthaginian invasion into Spain.
Corduba is one of those cities that rebels frequently. It's locate𒁏d quite a distance from the Carthaginian capital, and whoever conquers it (whether it's the Spanish or Romans) will need to monitor the public order and build public order temples if possible.
1 Damꦜme, Germania
Modern Day Damme
It's not easy to pick out a top barbarian city, but we had to𒀰 include at least one on this list. Although Damme is located inland with no world wonders or other significant benefits, it's featured on this list because it's the capital of the Germa📖nia faction, probably the most fun Barbarian faction to play in the game.
The Germania faction offers a lot of unique units, like Screechi﷽ng Women, War Hounds, and Berserkers. The spam of infinite Warband units is just about good enough to tackle the Romans, although it is always an uphill struggle.
