10 Dragalge

This Poison and Dragon-Type is based on one of nature's coolest sea creatures, the leafy seadragon. If you never hav𒅌e heard of it, that's because it is only found in Australia's waters. The likeness to Dragalge is undeniable. Also similar to the leafy seadragon, Dragalge uses camouflage to blend into its environment.

9 Drampa

You either love or hate Drampa's design, and few fans are in-between. It is basically the combination of a dragon and an old man. Its appearance may be based up🔜on a specific kind of Chinese dragon called a Zhulong.

Zhulong were known to have the🎉 face of an old man and the body of a dragon. If that isn't convincing, remember that its name is literally a combination of dragon and grandpa.

8 Hydreigon

Hydreigon is both Dark and Dragon-Type. That is part of the reason why fans love 𒆙the design. It's a little more darker and more sinister looking than the other Dragon-Types.

Different dragon legends were incorporated into its design. One is the Hydra for ℱits multiple heads, and "hydra" is also part of H🐻ydreigon's name. Its design was also inspired by Orochi, a dragon from Japanese legend. Except, Hydreigon has three heads instead of eight.

7 Noivern

This Flying and Dragon-Type is a lovely combination between a dragon and a bat. Its name gives some ജhint as to the inspiration behind its ꦆdesign. That's right, wyverns, the legendary bipedal dragons! As for what kind of bat, its ears and nose are similar to fruit bats, long-eared bats, and leaf-nosed bats. Noivern may have also turned out so well because it resembles a Gargoyle.

6 Giratina

There is a ton to digest when it comes to Giratina's design. It has a lot going on. Its artists had a big job on 𒅌their hands too, as it is basically the Fallen Angel of Pokémon lore. Indeed, its figure resembles that of a biblical fallen angel, wings and all. It is also an interesting and rare combination of Ghost and Dragon types.

However, it is also centipede-like. Fans believe that was inspired by a centipede character out of an old Japanese fairy-tale known as "My Lord Bag of Rice.🗹" Bugs often play large roles in Japanese folklore, and it was creativ💛e of them to combine that with the idea of a demon.

5 Appletun

Both and Dragon-Type, Appletun tunneled its way into the hearts of many trainers. It's hard to not love, as it resembles an apple pie and have ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚa lot of dog-like qualities.

✅Fans have theorized that Appletun's design is based on a Greek dragon called📖 Ladon. Alternatively, it could be based on the serpent who convinced Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, which is typically depicted as an apple. That's a pretty crazy theory for such a cute design!

4 Rayquaza

A lo🎀t of Legendary Pokémon are Dragon-Type or part Dragon-Type. That is why we have yet another legendary on this list, Rayquaza! Like a lot of the others on this list, it is based on a Chinese dragon. Besides the Chinese dragon, it also resembles a serpent out of Norse mythology: the Lindworm.

Other than those two𝐆 creatures of myth, there is a third that is said to have inspired Rayquaza! The Aztec god, Quetzalcoatl, actually has a similar role to play in its lore as Rayquaza🌳 does in the Pokémon world.

3 Altaria

Altaria's design is one of the best becau൩se it looks like it is part bird and part cloud. You just wish you coul🐻d give it a hug and feel the fluffiness of its wings.

Its design is also based on a Chinese mythology creature. The creature is called Peng, which is♛ alike to Garuda of Buddhist mythology. The fluffiness of Altaria may have also been inspired by a Russian hat called a ushanka.

2 Flygon

Flygon's design is a favorite of many fans. Its design is actually somewhat bug-like, like a dragonfly. In fact, its own name appears to be an anagram for "dragonfly." Part of what makes Flygon interesting is that it ꦕis Ground-Type, despite having wings. This is because some dragonflies are called "sand dragons."

1 Dragonair

In a sense, Dragonair is a tragedy. This is because it evolves into Dragonite, which is a far less amazing design. Fans love Dragonair for its sleek form, adorable horn and wings, and calming blue💯 hue.

It resembles both dragons, sea serpents, and snakes. In fact, the end of its tail is like that of a rattlesnake. One theory i♍s that Dragonair is based on a Korean mythological creature called an "imugi," which is a snake-like dragon that lives🐲 in caves.
