Games, as a whole, are getting bigger. As technology improves, it's possible to create and populate far larger maps for players to wander around in. However, this can be a mixed blessing, as a big world doesn't necessarily mean lots of content. While there are 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:many brilliant open-world games out there, sometimes it's the same amount of content, with a lot of hiking in between.

Not all games abide by the cliché that bigger is better. Some go out of their way to fit everything into a small space. This can be cost-effective for𒊎 indie developers and create a far more oppressive atmosphere than a wide-open world can.

10 Iron Lung

Iron Lung - Hidden In The Back

In some ways, you could call indie horror Iron Lung an exploration game, though you won't actually be seeing much of it yourself. You play as a convict welded inside a rusting junk heap of a submarine. You've shipped to a moon with a mysterious ocean of blood on its surface.

You are supposed to take pictures using an externally-mounted camera, though this has a delayed upload time. Most of the navigating is done by padding around your increasingly-waterlogged craft, operating controls, and trying to put out the electrical fires that start up. It's difficult to keep up with, and that's before you realize that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:you're not alone under the blood sea.

9 Papers, ꧒Please

A screenshot showing gameplay in Papers, Please

Sit in a booth, look at passports, and stamp the papers. That is the core gameplay of Papers, Please, a game that puts you 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:in the shoes of an immigration꧙ officer on the border of the nation of Arstotzska. The country is going through a turbulent time politically, and as such, they must keep a close eye on who they allow into their country. That's where you come in.

You must scrutinize the paperwork presented by potential immigrants, question inconsistencies and errors, and even call the authorities if you suspect laws are being broken. The rules change and complicate as the days pass, and you'll often be forced to make tough choices on whether to let things slide in order to help people or adhere to the rules and trust no one's word. Who thought sitting still could be so stressful?

8 🐲 🅰 Little Inferno

Little Inferno Screenshot Of Everything on Fire

Normally, pyromania is discouraged in polite society. In the world of Little Inferno, it's one of the few hobbies available. You begin the game as the owner of a new Little Inferno Entertainment Fireplace. You burn things inside the fireplace, after which they drop money. You use the money to buy more things to burn; how neat.

The controlled arson you're encouraged to do both keeps you warm and distracts you from the fact that the world around you is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:trapped in perpetual winter, growing slowly colder while no one knows how to stop it. It's pretty hard to have existential dread when you're blowing up a toy squirrel.

7 Cain

Cain screenshot, showing character sat inside a room with the Cain title screen on a CRT TV in front of them.

The short horror title Cain is a game within a game. That is, you play as someone sitting in their 3D-rendered room, joystick in hand, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:playing a retro platformer on an aged CRT TV. The platformer is some standard fare, albeit with a strangely oppressive atmosphere and grim, rather sinister-looking enemy sprites in places. Concerningly, it soon becomes clear that the game is🍌 addressing you directly.

As the platforming progresses, things start to change in the bedroom outside of it, and the inability to move in the 3D world leaves you feeling very exposed. If only you'd turned the lights on.

6 House

Screenshot from the game House, depicting the main character and a creature with long hair climbing out of the toilet.

House is, shockingly, set inside someone's living space. A young girl's, in fact. There is something wrong with the house, and it seems to have a nasty effect on everyone inside.

The day progresses as you play, with events happening at certain times. An understanding of the potential consequences is often needed before you can stop them, so you will probably see the family's awful fates at least once. It's possible to thwart the house for most of the day, but it's all over when it's time for dad to get home. Be ready.

5 Carbon St🦹eel

Carbon Steel screenshot showing an overview of the small lab room, covered in rust.

Carbon Steel is a short, experimental horror game where you play as someone who has accepted a low-ranking but well-paid job in a sinister-looking below-ground structure. Your job is to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:assist with the scientists' projects by working and living in ⭕a small, poorly-maintained room and dealing with samples on arrival. The samples are mu🎃ch more alive and hostile than ideal.

You will need to anesthetize whatever eldritch horror the drill unit brings up from deep below the earth and use the machines to extract essential scientific data. Why is it important? It's probably best not to ask.

4 Do Not Feed The Monkeys 💝 💙

In Do Not Feed The Monkeys, you play as someone who engages in the very normal pass🍷 time of spying on people for fun.

You have been admitted into a society preoccupied with watching unknowing individuals. This seems to be a questionable privilege. Living in a cramped apartment and working low-end jobs to make ends meet, your free time is spent sitting at your computer, gathering information on the 'monkeys' for your shadowy superiors in exchange for paltry amounts of cash and potential influence in your strange group. Clearly, you have your priorities in order.

3 ♔ 🍷 60 Seconds!

In 60 Seconds!, nuclear war is on the way, quite literally. You play as one of the parents of a typical suburban household,🃏 who has just discovered that a nuclear missile is on its way, and in one minute, the city will be engulfed in atomic fire. Fortunately, you have a fallout shelter. Unfortunately, it has no supplies inside.

The first part of a run is a frantic dash around the house, grabbing water, first aid kits, and family members before the bomb drops. The second phase has you and your surviving members holed up in your shelter. You ration supplies, send your most expendable relatives outside to scavenge, and contend with the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:arrival of assorted weirdos at your bunker door.

2 Stories Untold 🎶

House Abandon text-based adventure game from Stories Untold

You're in front of a device. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:It may be an old computer in an aging house or some scientific monitoring devices inside a laboratory; maybe it's your work terminal at a remote station. You navigate a story through a few fixed views. Perhaps eventually, you will break away from the screen, though don't expect it to make up a lot of the game.

Stories Untold is a game all about doing a lot with limited viewpoints and telling some seemingly disparate stories that will converge 💫in a way that might take you by surprise.

1 Five Nights At Freddy's

player looks at open right door of Fazbear Pizza security office with 87% power at 12 am during night 5

Perhaps the most successful of the restricted-space settings, Five Nights At Freddy's takes a minimalist setup and gets creative. You are a security guard seeing out the world's worst night shift. Sat in a security office in a children's pizzeria, you soon discover 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:that the animatronic animals that perform during the day have some rather quirky behavior after the doors close. In short, if they get into the o🔯ffice, they will k🐓ill you.

Monitoring the cameras for their movement and operating the security doors to keep yourself safe and conserve power until sunrise is no easy task, and there's no way out. You're either leaving the office at the end of your shift or you're not leaving at all.
