There's no question that the battle royale genre made a namඣe for itself during the past ten years, but that doesn't mean it was the only genre out the♔re.

We continue our "Best of the Decade" coverage with TheꦑGamer News Team's G🎶enres of the Decade!

Sam Watanuki - Battle Royale

Before , I began my streaming career as Roedai, getting my first chicken dinner while streaming H1Z1 (the second-place player died outside the perimeter, before you get too impressed). My next victory didn't come until Blackout in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, but that wasn't for a lack of trying in Fortnite, PUBG, and everything in between.

Patrick Kobek - Battle Royale

The rise of the battle royale might be as swift as its decline. Fortnite showed us how quickly a newer genre can skyrocket to the top of cultural reference, and yet, how it mayꦿ be passing as a fad. Will the genre be p♒owerful in 2020 and beyond, or are we already seeing it go down, and what will take its place?

Scott Baird - RPG

You need proof that RPGs ruled the 10s? Persona 5, Undertale, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age Inquisition, Dragon Quest XI, Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Shadowrun Returns, Final Fantasy XIV, and Xenoblade Chronicles to name a few. There were people who actually predicted that fans were losing inter🍸est in RPGs during the PlayStation 3 era, but the genre was just resting in preparation for some of the best games of all-time.

Bella Blondeau - RPG

RPGs truly came into their own in the past decade. This was the decade that every AAA publisher decided to start adding RPG progression to practically every major release, the decade that Dark Souls legitimized ARPGs, the decade that "turn-based" stopped being a dirty word, the decade that people couldn't shut up about Geralt's feet. No genre has had a better go of it t𒀰his decade than RPGs, and I feel that it's just getting started.

Helen Ashcroft - Simulation

I'm a simulation game girl at heart, and over the last decade, the genre has made some incredible strides. Back in 2010, we still had a long way to go. While Sims 3 was making wave, they soon b𒐪egan to crash and so did the game as the DLC stopped functioning for many players, including mys🅠elf. Other games were much more basic. Now, we have some truly diverse and incredibly immersive simulation games, including The Sims 4 and Planet Zoo, which are setting a⭕ very🐈 high bar for things to come.

Jon Bitner - First-Person Shooter

Battlefield, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch, Titanfall, Borderlands, Destiny, Far Cry... the list goes on. You'd be hard-pressed to find a genre with as many great games as this. RPGs come close, bu🅠t when it comes to both sales and critical acclaim, the scales tip in favor of the shooters.

Eric Switzer - MOBA

MOBA games took esports and exploded it into the mainstream. Dota 2 and League of Legends are the two biggest games in the world despite sharing the exact same category and market. Never in history has a new genre been created and grown to such heights so rapidly. Battle royales have certainly had a huge impact on the gaming market, but not even Fortnite has managed to legitimize and market gaming the 💧way MOBAs have.

Jamie Latour  - Roguelike/Roguelite

Spelunky and The Binding of Isaac helped usher in a wave of games where you tried to make it to the end of a run before dying horribly and starting all over. It's not the friendliest genre, but it's hard to think of any other category of game that rose to prominence faster this 🍸decade than the roguelike.

Ethan Anderson - RPG

I’d be lying to myself if I said I didn’t have an insane amount of fun playing battle royale games with friends and family recently, but I’m an RPG lover at heart. So many amazing RPGs were released this decade that I’ve sunk an ungodly amount of hours into. This genre has provided so many wonderful worlds to get lost in, both literally and figuratively, and I believe it deserves the top spot for so many more reasons 𝕴as well. Reasons that I honestly can’t even begin to attempt to fit into our word limit.

Sean Murray - Battle Royale

I mean, what else could it be? First, it was H1Z1, then it was PUBG, and now Fortnite. Every major title since then has had some sort of battle royale game mode. Hell, there are more battle royale indie games in development now than any other geꩲnre. If you could summarize the💟 20-teens in a single genre, it would be "battle royale."

Andrew Penney - Battle Royale

Although MOBAs exploded in popularity leading into the decade, the rise of the battle boyale edges this one out. Fortnite might not have been quite enough to stand toe-to-toe with League of Legends, but the stage was set by H1Z1 and PUBG - not to mention the assistance of streaming superstars. Additionally, Epic Games tested the limits of what studios could accomplish with in-game events such as the live Marshmello concert. At the end of the decade, games like Apex Legends and Realm Royale proved the longevity of the genre.

Patrick Sklar - MOBA

Yeah, yeah - battle royale may be a late contender to the Best Genre throne, but this was unquestionably the decade of the MOBA. Starting with League Of Legends (or Demigod, if you're feeling frisky) and followed by... a trail of dead games a mile wide and ten years long, plus Dota 2, the MOBA reshaped the gaming landscape and practically recreated esports for the ꦍmodern era.
