Watchmen: The Graphic Novel
Best book on the cinder
While certainly not a rꦗecent release, Watchmen is considered one of the best graph𓆏ic novels of all time and is a must-read.
- Deeply influenced the Superhero genre
- Considered the best graphic novel of all time
- Absolutely not safe for kids
No list of this sort would be complete without two books - Watchmen and Maus. We'll get into Maus later, but for now, let's look at a book often considered to be the greatest superhero story of all time. Watchmen looks at the idea of the superhero as a societal figure and what impact it has on the world around it. Think of it as a more serious and darker version of The Boys.
This is a grim story that undoes many of our ideals and isn't something we can condone you giving to children for its intense themes. Stories like Watchmen are what inspired modern-day stories like Injustice and the aforementioned The Boys, so make sure you know what you're getting into with this one before you add it to your 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:display shelves.

Art Spiegelman's Maus
Banned and beloved
Lauded as one of the best graphic novels of all time, Art Spi💜egelman's Maus focuses on the narrator's strained relationship with their father, a Holocaust survivor. Te🌜lling the story of his family, this tumultuous novel focuses deeply on the events, making it a tough read at points.
- Deeply moving and political
- Looks at the Holocaust from a survivor and victim perspective
- Winner of the Pulitzer Prize
And for that second titan of graphic novels, we have Art Spiegelman's Maus. You've likely heard of this story, either through its well-deserved fame or through it being banned in some schools in the United States in recent years. We aren't going to go into the politics of the bans for several reasons, but as the author, I'll say one thing - break those bans, find this book, and read it immediately.
Maus focuses on the Holocaust, set in a metaphorical world where the Jews and many other victims are mice while the perpetrators of the Holocaust are cats. We see the story from a survivor's perspective, moved through with rich narration, hauntingly beautiful imagery, and an enrapturing story that's almost impossible to put down. This story took home the Pulitzer Prize and deserves every second of the praise it gets. We're hoping that you're the next person to add this heart-achingly moving story to your library.

The Amory Wars - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV: Ultimate Edition
Read it beneath a black rainbow
Fans of the band Coheed & Cambria as well as enthusiasts of sci-fi, fantasy, and graphic novels alike all hold The Amory Wars in deep respect and high regard. This Ultimate Edition contains over 400 pages of stories, te🐻lling the vast majority of the tale.
- Takes place as a sci-fi epic
- The story of the graphic novel directly relates to the music of the writer's band
- Contains more than 400 pages of stories from the universe
- Some of the story isn't in this book due to it being released before the story was finished
Many of the most popular graphic novels are decades old - what about something more recent?168澳洲幸运5开奖网: For Sci-Fi, we didn't want to go for any of the enormous IPs that we are all already familiar with. Instead, what about a niche that's spawned a global community of music fans and literature lovers alike? If you've heard of the band Coheed & Cambria, you know where we're going with this entry.
The Amory Wars is a story that spans across a galaxy and a great deal of time. This graphic novel contains more than 400 pages of stories, comics, graphic novellas, and more from the universe, telling the cohesive story of The Crowing, Coheed, Cambria, and countless other characters. Cult of the Lamb Vol. 1: The First Verse (Paperback)
Choose to keep the crown
Are you a Cult of the Lamb fan who's found yourself curious about the setting 𝓀of the mysterious game? This novelization of the game sets the Lamb against the Four Bishops of the Old Faith, showing a canon appearance of how the events unfold.
- Novelization of the wildly popular Cult of the Lamb video game
- Shows a more canon version of the events from the game
Graphic novels are great, video games are great, why aren't we combining the two more often? Cult of the Lamb has been an immensely popular game since its release a few years ago, taking the roguelike world by storm. In the game, you play as the last of the sacrificial Lambs, murdered in a ritual by the Bishops of the Old Faith to seal away the gods that came before them. But as death claims you, the mysterious figure instead turns you to his disciple, lending you his powers so that you can cut down the Bishops in his name.
Why's the game so relevant to the graphic novel? The graphic novel is a direct novelization of the game. That is to say, this graphic novel canonizes the events of the game into a set story rather than our own individual playthroughs. It sticks to the campaign pretty strictly, so you don't have to worry about any canon-shattering events happening. If you've played the game, you know how this excellent story plays out.

Saga: Volume 1
Life is complicated and short
Half love story and half sci-fi epic, Saga shows a forbidden love between two members of long-standing rival races. A🃏s the two struggle to raise their child, we see the stresses in the political sphere ♚of their war-torn world.
- First of many volumes
- Blends forbidden romance and the sci-fi genre
- Still being released!
The first Saga came out quite some time ago, so why are we talking about it in 2024? There are a couple of reasons, with the first being that there's never a bad time to talk about this incredible story. The second is because, unlike most stories on this list, Saga is still ongoing. After a lengthy hiatus, the writers have returned to Saga to continue the... well, to continue the saga, I suppose.
Half Romeo & Juliet and half planet-hopping sci-fi epic, Saga pits two struggling parents into a world of political turmoil as they struggle to raise their child in secrecy. There's nothing in this story that isn't moving, but there's plenty that we want to avoid spoiling, so I'm going to leave the description there. There are 11 trade copies of this graphic novel out as of writing this, so go pick up the first one and get to work.

Scott Pilgrim Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life
Bread makes you fat?
Ever wanted to battle using music, v꧂ideo game logic, and vegan superpowers? The first volume of Scott Pilgrim is a timeless choice made even more relevant by the recent 👍release of the Scott Pilgrim Takes Off anime.
- First of six volumes
- Has a wealth of other media related to it such as games and music
- Vegan powers are not yet to invented in the real world
Scott Pilgrim is a story that's been hard to avoid for nearly 20 years now, and that's a fact I'm thankful for. Whether you love this story for its side-scrolling beat-'em-up video game, the live action movie, or the graphic novels themselves, we can't recommend Scott Pilgrim enough.
Based (mostly) in Toronto, this story follows the titular failure Scott as he grapples with his life, romances, and more. Pitted in battle against seven evil exes to win the heart of the girl he's fallen for, this story is part musical, part video game, and all comedy. It's been getting more attention since the late 2023 release of the anime Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, so if you're still waiting to hop on the bus, here's your sign.
FAQ
Are Graphic Novels Still Popular?
Absolutely, yes. We've focused on some older novels here because these are considered some of the best you can find. Graphic novels are exceptionally varied and you can find something to match nearly any taste.
Are Graphic Novels Easier To Read?
Not necessarily. Using graphics and pictures makes them go quicker, and you have a visual aid that can help you picture the things you're reading. But that isn't to say that graphic novels are simple, juvenile, or easy to read in comparison to a non-graphic traditional novel.
Where Can I find Graphic Novels?
My favorite place to check is local brick-and-mortar stores like comic shops and bookstores. If they don't have what you want, they can often order it for you for pick-up. But if you don't want to wait or if you're looking for something elusive, using online platforms is often the easiest.
