The last thing you want in horror is predi🐬ctability. No one gets scared when they know exactly how things are going to play out. Anything setting out to frighten has to master the discipline of keeping a player guessing, but some games will take this to a whole other level.
There are titles out there that do not just surprise you — they will turn the whole story on its head, a⛎nd throw off an🥃y expectations of how a story might end. Some get meta, some have protagonists falling for a trick, and some are trying to tell you the truth all along.

BioShock sees you taking the role of a man in a terribly unlucky situation. Your plane has crashed into the ocean. The only land nearby is a lighthouse, and on making your way to i💟t, you discover the entrance to the underwater city of Rapture. The place is overrun with deranged🌠 and mutated citizens. Luckily for you, a helpful soul named Atlas gives you instructions via the radio on how to proceed.
Atlas is playing you. You were always meant to be dragged to Rapture, and even his language is a means of exerting a conditioned response to obey him. You can still turn ♏the tables on your manipulator, though you might need a bit of help.
9 Cry Of Fear - Everything Was A Fiꦫgment Of Your Imagination
Trying to get home after dark can be a harrowing experience to begin with, but Cry Of Fear takes that to another level. In this title, you play as Alex, who wakes up after being hit by a car to find Stockholm is not as he remembers it. Everything is wrong, and soon he's under attack from grotesque creatures.
He tries to make his way home, eventually reaching the house to find it empty. It's only then, on finding a book, that you realize the reality of it all. This is all a construction of Alex's imagination. He was seriously injured in the car impact, and the entities he's been facing are incarnations of his trauma that he has written down as a means of confronting it.
8 The Witch's House - You Are The Witch
In the RPG Maker horror classic The Witch's House, you are a young woman named Viola who is trapped in the woods. The magic of a witch has caused roses to block the road, and the only route available leads to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the spellcaster's house. You navigate your way through, solving puzzles and avoiding death by the house's many traps.
Eventually, you will meet the supposed witch only to discover the truth. This is your house, and you've just been able to acquire a new body. It's just an inconvenience that the girl you swapped bodies with inherited enough of your magic to block your exit. All you are doing is returning to finish the job. Nasty.
7 🌸 ဣ Omori - Sunny Killed Mari
In Omori, you take the role of Sunny, a shut-in who spends much of his day in the house, lost in a fantasy world. As Sunny's alter-ego Omori, you and your group of friends adventure through the dream world of Headspace and get into all kinds of trouble. There's something wrong though. A strange entity stalks you, a ghost-like shape with a side, vertically aligned eye.
Eventually, you will find out what it means. Sunny accidentally killed his sister Mari. He and his friend Basil hung her body up, staging it as a suicide. The entity is revealed to be a representation of his last glimpse of his sister, with h𓂃er single eye fixed open and staring blankly at him through her loose hair.
6 Resident☂ Evil - Wesker Is A🦩 Traitor
In the original 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Resident Evil and its remake, you take the role of one of the members of the S.T.A.R.S' Alpha Team who set out to investigate a loss of contact with another of their squads. Things quickly go wrong, hideous creatures attack you, and the pilot flees, taking your means of escape away.

Paul Prospero can talk to the dead. If that sounds a little fꦛar-fetched, you might not be completely off-base. The Vanishing Of Eth🌊an Carter sees you play as the medium turned detective as he searches for a missing boy, Ethan.
As you investigate, you uncover all sorts of hidden secrets, family curses, and dangerous cults, but there's a greater secret below it all. Eventually, you may discover what you really are. You are no investigator, you are an imaginary character, dreamed up by Ethan to comfort himself as he dies in a house fire started by one of his abusive family members. In hindsight, maybe it would have been better not to crack that case, detective.
4 Soma - Simon Died Many Y🅺ears Ago
In the sci-fi horror Soma, you start out as a man named Simon, who is going for a brain scan. The scan starts, and suddenly you find yourself somewhere else. Abruptly transported to PATHOS II, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a decaying underwater research base populated by 🦂ro🉐botic abominations, the news keeps getting worse.
Apparently, the world has been practically wiped out, with PATHOS II being the only place left that can support life. You might be the only human left alive. Looking into the mirror will eventually reveal the full truth, though. You will see your face... or lack of it. Simon died centuries ago, and you are playing as a chip with his brain scan data on, stuffed into a diving suit. Well, at least you don't have to worry about being the last man.
3 Until Dawn - It Was A Hoax Until It Wasn't
Invited to a getaway in a remote location where a tragedy occurred previously? 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Until Dawn sounds like a party. After two girls go missing at an annual get-together, the guests attending the next year get a pretty nasty surprise. Taking control of various characters, you are pursued ಌby a masked killer who torments you.
This masked man is revealed to be Josh, the brother of the missing girls, trying to get revenge on the others foܫr the cruel prank that led to his sisters fleeing into the woods at the previous party. This might be reassuring until it becomes clear that the other things out there are not part of his script.
2 Doki Doki Literature Club - Monika Knows It's A Game

When a supposed visual novel dating sim gives you a warning about disturbing content, you know you're in for a rough ride, though you probably wouldn't anticipate just how wild a turn it takes. Eventually, it becomes clear that Monika is not only the villain but that she is self-aware and has been apparently manipulating the game's files in order to have the undivided attention of the player. As flattering as that is, it's a horrifying prospect

One of the Ishimura's crew members is Isaac's girlfriend, Nicole. Reassuringly, you see her fairly early on, and she helps you progress through the game.
While everything is falling apart, with her help you find the Marker, the source of the chaos... and indeed the source of Nicole. The real Nicole killed herself before you even started, this was just a hallucination, allowing the Marker to get what it wanted. There are even clues out there, the first letter of every chapter of the game will spell out 'NICOLE IS DEAD'. Shame Isaac couldn't read them, really.
