168澳洲幸运5开奖网: Alan Wake 2: 15 Best Quotes

In a game about writing, it's only natural that we would find several memorable quotes🐼. These are the words that stayed with us the most.

Most of these belong to the titular protagonist, but some other characters have some great lines as well. Even more than ten years later, Alan Wake's story holds up, due to a combination of the mystery surrounding the scenario and the dialogue. The game didn't sell well right out of the gate and went on to become a cult classic, so we're glad to see Alan's story didn't end with the 2010 debut entry.

Updated on November 11, 2023, by Jason Wojnar: With Alan Wake 2 now in our hands, it's as interesting a time as ever to revisit the first Alan Wake. Many of these quotes take on a new meaning now that we know what happens next. We expand upon many of the entries and look back on what they were hinting at or how the sequel expanded upon them. Even though Alan Wake 2 is a tonal and genre shift, it still explores many of the same themes as the first game.

7 The Unanswered Mystery Is What Stays With Us The Longest, And It's What We'll Remember In The End.

Alan Wake

alan wake intro shot showing the mountains in Bright Falls

This is from the opening cutscene, serving as a great thesis statement for the whole game. It is almost impossible to rationally explain what is exactly going on in Alan Wake, and maybe it would be inappropriate to even try. Yet, it is this lack of answers that helped Alan Wake stay in fans' minds all these years. If the story wrapped up in a single game, then there'd be no point in having a sequel, would there?

Alan Wake 2 similarly leaves us 🍸with many questions at the end of its story. At the same time, i﷽t explains in deeper detail how the Dark Place works and gives it a logic all its own.

6 I Lifted The Page In Front Of My Eyes And Read It. In It, I Lifted The Page In Front Of My Eyes And Read It. In It, I Lifted..♎..

Alan Wake (Manuscript Page)

Manuscript page black letters on white paper

Manuscript pages found throughout the story help flesh out characters and also add to the mystery. The game's hardest difficulty contains exclusive pages not found anywhere else. One of the pages pokes fun at this storytelling technique by creating a loop where Alan reads a page describing how he reads a page which describes how he reads a page and on and on.

Even though Alan Wake is a serious story, it is simultaneously not afraid to have a little fun with the ideas it presents to players. Alan Wake 2 takes the hum🥃or even further with a ton of self-referential jokes.

5 Don't Mind Him, He's Mr. Scratch, Your Friends Will Meet Him When You're Gone.

Thomas Zane

Alan Wake Looking at Mr. Scratch

We recommend skipping this entry if you have not y⭕et watched the TV show Twin Peaks, because it 🥂deals directly with a major spoiler from that show.

The introduction of Mr. Scratch in Alan Wake's finale reminds us of Twin Peaks' second season finale, which similarly introduces an evil doppelgänger for the protagonist.

Thomas Zane's promise that Alan's "friends will meet him when (he's) gone" is particularly eerie. Alan Wake 2 expands upon Thomas Zane's character and motivations and more prominently features Mr. Scratch. The latter indulges in some brutally gory mayhem.

4 Wait, Are You Seriously Telling Me Tꦏhat Geek Writer ꧒Just Took Out My Deputies? Are You Kidding Me? I Mean, Have You Seen This Guy? He Wears A Tweed Jacket!

Sheriff Breaker

alan wake standing before a crashed police car

This is overheard on a police radio in Episode T🅠hree. Sheriff Breaker says this to Agent Nightingale while the police are chasing Alan. Sheriff Brea🍌ker trusts Alan and believes that he is not guilty of the things of which he is accused.

It seems initially like she is a good judge of character, but this line makes it look like she just thinks he doesn't have it in him to commit crimes.

Regardless, Sheriff Breaker is up there with Barry Wheeler as one of the most trustworthy characters in Alan Wake. We don't see Sarah Breaker in Alan Wake 2, but her cousin Time, played by Shawn Ashmore, has taken over as sheriff and plays a large, enigmatic role in the sequel that he, funnily enough, does not quite understand himself.

3 𝔍 A Writer Is A Light That Reveals The World Of His Story From Darkness, Shapes It From Nothingness.

Alan Wake

alan wake looking down at a desk in his writer's room in New York

Sam Lake has said that Alan Wake is one of the closest games in Remedy's catalog because it is about a writer. This quote deals with the nature of creativity. It is truly magical to create something out of nothing. In Alan Wake, it's Wake's creativity that spawns the havoc in the first place, but it is his ingenuity and stories that solve the problem as well. Anybody who writes fiction or creates art can relate to this quote.

Alan Wake further expands on this and heavily reinforces the power of art. There are several surprisingly touching sequences that use rock music to great effect. Remedy has been a champion of using pop and rock in their stories all the way since Max Payne 2 playing Poets of the Fall's Late Goodbye over the closing credits.

2 You're A Pretty Good Writer. A Little Heavy On The Metaphors, Maybe.

Sheriff Breaker

A Helicopter flies through bright falls.

Sarah Breaker says this to Alan in Episode Five. This line is obviously poking fun at the game's own writing style and the studio's prior game, Max Payne. The titular protagonist of that series famously talks in tightly woven metaphors.

There's always another story to be written.

It is the game's signature mark, but it is also easy to parody. The metaphors are fun to hear when playing Max Payne, and we wouldn't have it any other way. The echoes in Alan Wake 2 give us more juicy metaphors from a hard-boiled detective as it recounts Alex Casey's investigation into the Cult of the Tree.

1 🌌 I Was Operating On The Shifting Logic Of A Dream.

Alan Wake

Alan Wake running through the forest towards a thermos

Alan says this in Episode Six while on his way to Cauldron Lake. He is pretty sure he knows what to do, but it is impossible to tell when the whole world has just been turned upside down. The world is not operating by the rule🔥s of the normal w𒐪orld, but there are still rules nonetheless.

Once Alan understands that this supernatural problem requires a supernatural solution, he is able to take control of the situation and finally save his wife. At least we ✤thought he controlled the situation. Alan Wake 2 shows that there was still a lot of work to do.
