Online multiplayer is a concept most take for granted nowadays. It didn’t use to be so easy to play games with a friend. In fact, some of the most complicated multiplayer games came from Nintendo’s Game Boy series of portables.
The Game Boy Advance, which is turn🎀ing 20 this year, had to use cables for example. Even though it got expensive, the handheld should be applauded for adding in some interesting game setups with these cablesꦍ in mind. One of the most interesting was Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on GameCube. Players would use their handhelds as controllers and plug into the GameCube for multiplayer. What other ideas were out there?
10 Disney's Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey 🎉And Donald
This port was actually the first time this 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:game left Japan. It released on the Super Famicom in Japan in 1995, which made this re🥂-release almost a decade later in 2004.
It is an action platformer made by Capcom𝔍 wherein Mickey and Donald can change into special outfits aligned with powers, much like the Mario games. Using a link cable meant that it could be played in co-op.
9 Mario Kart: Super Circuit
The original game was a must-have for multiplayer sessions on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Super Nintendo and the same was🉐 true🅷 for this sequel. In the grand pantheon of Mario Kart games, this is often forgotten, since it’s so hard to play nowadays without emulation.
Still, for a time, it was a very significant multiplayer release for the GBA. As a fun side fact, this was developed by Intelligent Systems, the same company that makes💖 Fire Emblem for Nintendo.
8 Super Puzzle Fighter II
Every portable system needs a puzzle game. That’s why the original Game Boy was such a hit — it launched with Tetris. Super P🦩uzzle Fighter II is a cross between a block ꦫgame like Tetris and Street Fighter.
This first debuted in arcades in 1996 and this GBA port was one in a long line. Fighting through stages alone was fun, but playing a versus match with a friಞend was even better.
7 Godzilla: Domination
This game was developed by WayForwaꦦrd, the same company that makes the Shantae games. When they’re not mak🥀ing sequels, they take on third-party licensed-based content a good portion of the time, which usually means they turn out actually good.
Godzilla: Domination is like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Super Smash Bros. if it took place in cities wherein players could destroy the landscape along with their enemies✨. Iღt supports up to four players for some chaotic fighting action.
6 Shining Soul II
The Shining series has never been as big 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:as Final Fantasy or 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:even Dragon Quest, but it is ꦡstill a good RPG series worth looking into. Take this game for example. It’s sort 🍒of like a cross between Zelda and Diablo.
Players can choose a class and join up with three other people via link cables in order to fight monsters and look for treasure in this brightly colored top-down👍 adventure.
5 Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
This🅠 Kirby game’s gimmick was that he could be assisted by three other colored versions of himself. They could be called via cellphone. They act as AI then, but can actually b🌌e controlled by another player if linked up.
It’s more clunky than some other Kirby games w🐷ith co-op, like the most recent game on Switch, but it would be better if it got a modern port, thus fixing the cable issues.
4 Mario Golf: Advance Tour
This is another somewhat relaxing multiplayer game in the samꦗe vein as Super Puzzle Fighter II. That said, the Mario Golf games can get pretty heated with friends as well if they are competitive enough.
Either way, whether alone or with a linked group, this is one💫 of the best entries this spinoff series ever saw. For those that never played it, it might be fun to note that it’s kind of like an RPG.
3 Advance Wars
This was the first game in the Wars series to hit North America. This is significant since it started on the Famicom, a.k.a. the NES. This was in 2001 and it might be interesting to a🌱lso know that Japan didn’t even get this until 2🧜004, turning the tables.
Anyway, this strategy RPG was like a more high-stakes game of che🀅ss when playing with people and it ruled.
2 The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past And Four Sꦓwords
At its core, this wasඣ a remake of the SNES game. It also had a multiplayer mode tacked onto it that had four Links working together through a series of puzz༒le dungeons.
It feels mཧore like a prototype now, especially compared to the GameCube game, Four Swords Adventures. That said, it was, and still is, a surprisingly fun co-op experience on the GBA.
1 Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen
A Nintendo handheld would not be complete without 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a Pokemon game. This system’s new addition to the series was🎃 Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire, which were good.
The same can be said about these remakes, but in many nostalg♛ic eyes they are better. Debates aside, any core Pokemon game on the GBA was a quintessential purchase whether one wanted to trade monsters with friends or to battle them.
