With the poor saꦐles of the , many games never left Japan to b💟e localized. While this problem sounds straight from the 90s, this is because they knew they wouldn't recoup the price of translation and making copies overseas.
This left many Vita lovers with a limited library on their beloved device and alwa✤ys curious if there was more they can find. With a Japanese Vita, it's possible to play these games, and, in some cases, get u♉nofficial translations. If you are someone interested in what's out there in the world of Vita, here are the 10 best PS Vita games that never left Japan.
10 Phantasy Star Nova 🌜 ꦏ
This is a single-player oriented game compared to the Phantasy Star Online. This game is apart of the popular Phantasy Star game series, but it's one of the few that hasn't made it to America. It was given a Chinese adaptation as it'sဣ only localization. It still does feature heavily local multiplayer to take on big bad guys and story missions.
It als♉o allows character creation to a pretty detailed extent which doesn't require familiarity with the language to enjoy. However, being a story-heavy game a lot of those details will be lost playing through it.
9 ♎ Puyo Puyo Tetris
If you like puzzle games, then this is a good one for you. This unfortunately never made it to the US, but it is one of the best puzzle games on the PS Vita, combining both Puyo Puyo and Tetris into a pretty intuitive game.
It's one of the essentials of the PS Vita import list, as it ca꧒n♑ keep you hooked for hours, though, if you prefer action or storytelling games, this isn't the game for you because there are a number of similar titles on the android/ios store to play. It is a solid game, but it's not the best game to get you into the genre, though it doesn't require understanding Japanese to play.
8 Super Robot Wars Z 🦋III
This is essentially a huge crossover game between many popular mecha anime much like Blaze Blue Cross Tag Battle. This features Mecha crossovers from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, and Full Metal Panic. This is essentially a story b𝓰ased 𓃲beat-em-up game on Super Smash levels of crossover spanning past even the anime that was listed.
Th🗹🙈is title wasn't able to come over overseas—probably because it was simpler to do a crossover on such levels without having to worry about the other licensing companies wanting to take part—but it is an overall high quality release that could be worth looking at.
7 Gundam Breaker 1 ꦗ 🐽
Mobile Suit Gundam is a very successful anime franchise with a decent amount of spin-off games under its belt. The Gundam Breaker series was withheld form international rele💖ase, though it came out in most Asian territories.
This is a very in-depth game in upgrading and customization with the mecha, it knows🐲 that fans are there for the mecha and that it is the main appeal for the game. It's a hack-and-slash action game with hundreds of additional Gundam and different missions based on certain goals.
6 G👍undam Breaker 2 𝓀
This wouldও be the upgraded battle system version of the other game. Many of the inconveniences of the last game were fixed for much more fluid and less blocky gameplay. Things such as AI being able to revive you, unbreakable shield, and ride machines that can transport yourself across the map were added. This upgraded the amount of customization you can do in the game. This was available on PS3 as well, but neither that or the PS Vita version made it to Western territories.
5 Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk 🐷
While this got a full PS4 international release, the PS Vitaꦿ version wasn't given the same treatment. This is a really good dungeon crawler, its gameplay style is in the first person with 2d sprite battles. This game might be a bit difficult to get through without a base knowledge of the language at least, getting the instructions to get to the goal might go over your head otherwise and make battles difficult.
4 World Trigger: Borderless Mission ༺
Based on the anime and manga, this one game has a w💞ell-realized 3D world for exploration, though fans of the anime will find the story lacking and skipping many important beats in their visual novel style cutscenes. This game combines third-person shooting gameplay with a large sandbox exploration for an interesting experience. The one thing with this gওame is that it will feel like a cash-in game at many points with a lack of polish in gameplay.
3 ✱ IA/VT Colorful
IA/VT Colourless is an♒other rhythm game in the limited library from the PS Vi♌ta. It's considered one of the best on the system but was not made worldwide for localization. If you enjoy the genre, it's a must-have if you're looking for Japan only games to get your hands on.
2 ღ Valkyrie Chronicles 3
Valkyrie Chronicles 3 was limited in its release because of the low sales of its previous entry Valkyrie Chronicles 2. However, this game was able to get a number of fan translations, allowing those who can't read the language to enjoy it. This is a good game if you enjoy Fire Emblem style tactical RPG games.
Its battle style is much the same as Fire Emblem with taking control of units, but with the mix of being able to control the character in a 3D environment during combat. This is also a quite plot-hea🍌vy🐓 game, so, to get the most out of it, you'll probably want to brush up on your Japanese.
1 Airship Q
This game was only made internationally available on Steam, sometimes under different names like Wondership Q. Its initial PS Vita release wasn't made available, but it is a good game to pick up if you have the Vita available to play it. Airship Q was developed b꧂y Cygameꦿs who made the Granblue Fantasy series. While being innovative as Japan's first Sandbox RPG, it has a very outlandish premise of two Siblings turned into cats who have to chase after a witch to save an island.
