The Psychic-type has been a polarizing one in Pokemon. There was a time when it was unquestionably the best type in the game: 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:in Generation I where it had a few more matchups in its favor than it does today. Since then with every subsequent nerf, the Psychic 🔯type's value has diminished.
It hurt especially for Pokemon that don't carry any other type as defensively, the Psychic-type by itself has three weaknesses and two resi𓄧stances including itself which is not great. Regardless of 🍸that burden, these ten Pokemon have used their great stats and, in most cases, wide movepools to overcome the weaknesses of their type.
10 Cresselia (Low Tie🔜r) 💮
Cresselia is known for its bulk in lower-tier competitive play, but that doesn't fare as well as it could if you're a pure 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Psychic-type Pokemon. Still, its 💦120 HP, 120 Defense, and 130 Special Defense have proven to be assets in metagames where Bug-, Dark-, and Ghost-types are either too weak or too uncommon. Having Levitate does help in that regard as it all☂ows it free switches into Ground-type moves.
Offensively, its stats aren'tඣ much to speak of at 70 Attack and 75 Special Attack, but it has access to Calm Mind to help with sꦏet-up. After boosting up its Special Attack, it can put it to use with STAB moves like Psychic, Stored Power, or Expanding Force, and coverage moves like Shadow Ball and Moonblast.
9 🎀 Reuniclus (Low - Mid Tier)
Despite its slightly underwhelming 490 base stat total, Reuniclus has been a great offensive option since its debut 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:in Generation V. It might not have the Speed to sweep teams comᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚpletely unscathed, but it makes up for it with incredible bulk.
It's also got two amazing abilities to choose from: Magic Guard which only takes direct damage into account, and Regenerator 🔯which heals it upon switching out. In terms of moves, it's got tons of great STAB and coverage moves to work with such as Psychic and Psyshock for the former and Energy Ball, Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, and Thunder for the latter. Its sta﷽tus moves include Calm Mind to boost its already strong 125 Special Attack, and Recover for healing.
8 𒀰 Espeon (Mid Tier)
With a few recent nerfs to Umbreon, Espeon now has a stronger case than ever as the best of the Eeveelutions. Granted, it also got a significant buff for itsel𒁃f: gaining Magic Bounce as a hidden ability. With that, it could function as both a great lead and an off-rip special threat.
Thanks to Magic Bounce, it's immune to Taunt and Encore and can prevent its side of the field from being Stealth Rocked. It can add onto that by setting R𒐪eflect and Light Screen which it's quite known for competitively. It's got 130 Special Attack and can deal damage from a well-placed Psychic or Psyshock if needed. And on top of all that, it has status moves like Calm Mind for setting up or Morning Sun for healing.
7 Necrozma🦂 (Mid Tier) ൲
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Ultra Sun and Moon mascot is insanely powerful in🐲 its Dawn Wings, Dusk Mane, and Ultra ⛦formes, but none of them are pure Psychic-type. Base forme Necrozma is, but it's ultimately not on the same level of its enhanced formes.
Granted, it's still plenty capable with a great 600 base stat total that's invested mainly in Special Attack at 127. It's go💮t a great ability in Prism Armor which reduces super-effectiv🔯e damage, and a very good signature move in Photon Geyser which ignores the target's abilities. Alongside Photon Geyser are good coverage moves: Calm Mind for setting up and even Stealth Rock. It might not have been banned to Ubers, but it can settle for being one of the best special attackers of its tier.
6 ♔ 💃 Azelf (Mid - High Tier)
There was a time when Azelf was the most popular lead in the metagame by such a wide margin that strategies were made just to check it specifically. It's only recently been taken over as the best suicide lead in the game by Regieleki who is nearly unmatched in that department 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:thanks to its Speed.
Even then, there are certain things that Regieleki can't do that the Sinnoh Lake Guardian can do to a tee. It can set up Stealth Rock while preventing its opponent from doing so thanks to Taunt and then use Explosion. Having to face Azelf was like facing a ticking time bomb and it became a game for its opponents on which of its P🍬okemon had to face it head-on.
5 Wobbuffe☂t (Mid - High Tier)
It's difficult to rank this Pokemon with terrible stats and no real attacking moves, and yet it ranks ahead of three Legendaries. Despite its terrible stats, it was banned to Ubers and it essent🐭ially still is today. That's thanks to its ability Shadow Tag which prevents opponents from switching out.
With it, a Wobbuffet user could safely switch it into battle, use Encore, and act accordingly with either Counter or Mirror Coat or simply switch out to a Pokemon with a better matchup. While it is te𝄹chnically untiered in Smogon, that's because Shadow Tag is still banned. It can really only hang with the big boys in Ubers. That's fair as that strategy is far too exploitable to be used in fairer, more restrictive metagames.
4 💧 Alak✱azam (Mid - High Tier)
An absolute classic, Alakazam has been a powerful special attacker since day one. Even as every subsequent generation finds new ways to nerf Psychic-t💝ypes, Alakazam con🦹sistently manages to keep up and remain a threat. Of course, what makes it stands out is its incredible 135 Special Attack and the Special Defense and Speed to back it up.
For moves, it's got both 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Calm Mind and Nasty Plot for settin♔g up, the regular STAB Psychic-type moves, and tons of coverage. Not to mention, it's also got Magic Guard as a possible ability which makes it incredibly compatible with a Life Orb, gaining the attack boost without the gradual HP loss. The one knock on it is its terrible physical Defense, so be wary of that.
3 🍒 Mew (High Tier)
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The very first Mythical Pokemon is still an incredibly useful an🌜d versatile♏ one competitively. It can essentially play any role, thanks to its nearly all-encompassing movepool and exactly 100 stats across the board. What there is to determine then is the role that best suits it.
Many opt to use it as a jack-of-all-trades utility with moves like Stealth Rock, Taunt, Knock Off, Will-O-Wisp as options. It could certainly work as a pretty good attacker with STAB Psychic or even Cosmic Power and Stored Power. If it needs recovery, it's got Soft-Boiled for that. It all depends on what the user needs on the🐭ir team and where they invest their EVs. The Synchronize ability, while mainly just a bonus, is useful in case it gets a status effect.
2 Deoxys (High Tier) ♑
Deoxys' main niche competitively is its four fo🌸rmes. Even though all four formes are banned to Ubers, they are not equal in their viability. Its worst one is probably its ൲Defense forme as there are just too many factors for Deoxys to not work as a defensive Pokemon, namely. It has low HP, it is pure Psychic-typing, and it lacks clerical moves to do anything as it takes hits.
Then there's the base forme and Attack forme which are essentially the same; attack forme has proven to be more viable though. Both, essentially, are equall⛄y terrible defensively, yet Attack forme has the better Attack stat. Regardless, there are quite a few options for STAB and coverage moves for it to use. The one that has seen the most usage is the Speed forme since it works great as a lead thanks to its wide array of utili❀ty moves and, of course, its Speed.
1 Mewtwo (High Tier) ♛
It's fitting that a version of the proclaimed "ancestor of Pokemon" artificially modified to be overpowered is the best Psychic-type and one of the best Pokemon period. Even without 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the two Mega Evolutions it had in Generations VI and VII, it's ♕capable of dominating the Uber tier it's been banned to since Pokemon founded its competitive formats.
It's best used as a wallbreaker as it has the immense 154 Special Attack to get rid of even the biggest walls in its metagame. It also has the bulk to take a few hits and a situational but useful Pressure ability. Its movep🦋ool is almost just as widespread as Mew's, therefore giving it tons of coverage and utility moves to go alongside a STAB move like Psychic or its signature move, Psystrike.
