Legendaries are always a highlight of any Pokemon game, with the various different special Pokemon cropping up in various ways throughout the franchise. Some, such as the cover Legendaries, are encountered as part of the story. Others wait in similarly static locations but must be sought ouꦬt by the player instead.

Some Legendaries, however, are far harder to pin down. Roaming Legendaries have been a feature of Pokemon since Generation 2, and move around a region as the player does. In order to encounter one, you have to enter an area at the same time a roamer does, meaning it requires great luck or clever planning. A number of Pokemon have roamed various regions throughout the franchise's history, so here are the ten best.

10 ღ🥂 Galarian Moltres - Galar

Pokemon Galarian Moltres Galar Isle of Armor Roaming Legendary

Once you approach the Dyna Tree in the Crown Tundra, the three new variants of the classic Legendary Birds will begin roaming 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon's answer to the UK. Galarian Moltres is the only one of the three redesigns to make the top ten, thoughಌ Articuno and Zapdos are certainly deserving of honorable mentღions.

The dark/fire typing gives Galarian Moltres a far more sinister design than its Kantonian counterpart, making for a fantastic refresh. This daunting bird roams the Isle of Armor, where it'll lunge upon you once you catch up to it. Manage to capture it, and you'll be able to add a seriously cool Legendary to your collection.

9 Raikou - Johto (and 𒈔Kanto)

Raikou from the Pokemon anime, standing ready to battle with a storm in the background

Raikou was introduced in the Johto region in Generation 2's Gold and Silver, where it roamed the many routes of the fantastic map. In Generation 3 it moved to Kanto, roaming there in FireRed and LeafGreen before Generation 4's Heartgold and Soulsilver returned it to Johto.

Raikou is a brilliant Pokemon, with its electric typing reflected through its lightning-themed design. It'll start roaming once you see it - and its counterparts - in Ecruteak City's burned tower, so beeline for that once you reach the city if you want to begin hunting down the electric dog.

8 Zapdos - Sinnoh and Kalos ౠ 💟

Pokemon Zapdos Sinnoh Kalos Roaming Legendary

While Zapdos is a static encounter in its native Kanto, it was made available in later games - namely Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, X, and Y - as a roamer. In these regions, the Kantonian Birds play less into the plot and instead wander around the regions waiting to bump into ambi🥂tious trainers.

Zapdos is a classic design, and has endured for good reason - it's lightning personified, and it's easy to see how the Pokemon's mere presence feels like the arrival of a storm. It's fantastic Pokemon, and definitely one worth tracking to catch.

7 Entei - Johto (and ꧙Kanto) 🔴

Pokemon Entei Johto Kanto Roaming Legendary

Like its companion Raikou, Entei shows up in Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, Heartgold, and Soulsilver, where it roams one of the Pokemon franchise's first two regions. While Raikou is the beast of electricity, Entei's element is fire, and what's interesting is that the Legendary Dogs' typings were not chosen randomly.

The three Pokemon were originally regular Pokemon who died in the fire that destroyed the burned tower, but Ho-oh saved them and turned them into the legends we know them as today. Raikou's electricity represents the lightning that started the fire, Entei represents the inferno that followed, and Suicune represents the rain that ultimately extinguished the flames.

6 Articuno - Sinnoh and Kalos ღ ♈

Pokemon Articuno Sinnoh Kalos Roaming Legendary

The last Legendary bird on this list, Articuno is a beloved Pokemon for a reason. Its design is the epitome of grace and elegance, and at the time of its introduction, its powerful typing was unique. The ice/flying combo has only been seen on one Pokemon since - 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the underwhelming Delibird.

Articuno is a magnificent Pokemon, and the awe it commands is reflected in the snippets heard from NPCs around Kanto. Sadly, such limited dialogue was as much lore as th🍸e Legendary birds got, but at least their majesty was somewhat represented before they went off to roam other regions.

5 💜 𒊎Mesprit - Sinnoh

Pokemon Mesprit Sinnoh Roaming Legendary

One of the Lake Guardian trio, Mesprit is the bringer of emotion, working alongside Uxie (bringer of knowledge) and Azelf 🐈(the bringer of willpower). Curiously, Mesprit is the only one of the three to roam, leaving Lake Verity after the player encounters it there.

Mesprit, like the other two Lake Guardians, is an utterly adorable Pokemon — with excellent stat distribution to boot. So even if chasing it down once you've found the other Guardians easily sounds like a chore, it's well worth it.

4 𝐆 Suicune - Johto (and Kanto) ಞ

Pokemon Suicune Johto Kanto Roaming Legendary

The third and final of the Legendary Dogs trio, Suicune is a magnificent beast. Its elegance and might are reflected through its flowing, yet imposing design. Worth noting, however, is that Suicune doesn't roam in quite as many games as its counterparts Entei and Raikou.

In Crystal, Heartgold, and Soulsilver, Suicune earned a bigger role in the story. In these games, Suicune is ultimately a stationary encounter for the player, though its numerous appܫearances prior to that point might lead you to believe otherwise.

3 🎉 Cresselওia - Sinnoh

Pokemon Cresselia Sinnoh Roaming Legendary

Like Mesprit, Cresselia is a Sinnoh native, and that's where she roams. Wander around the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon version of Hokkaido enough and you'll eventually bump into this graceful Legendary. Cresselia's shimmering body and elegant form are said to represent the crescent moon.

This lunar design is in keeping with her role as Darkrai's counterpart. While Darkrai inflicts nightmares on its victims, Cresselia's presence ensures joyful dreams. This calming and graceful Pokemon fittingly starts roaming after you cure the nightmares of Eldritch's son.

2 Latias - H🐎oenn and Kanto

Latias flying in front of a tree.

In Generation 3, where Latias was first introduced, she'll roam Hoenn in copies of Sapphire and Emerald. She makes a return in Generation 4, where she roams Kanto in copies of Heartgold. Despite appearing again in subsequent games, these were her only appearances as a roamer. She didn't even roam in the Hoenn remakes, though this was due to a well-deserved increase in story significance.

Latias is a fantastic design, managing to capture the speed and power of the fighter jets that inspired her, while still remaining one of the cutest Legendaries in the franchise. When ORAS rolled around, it was high time her role in the plot was increased, but if you're playing one of the older games, she's still an excellent Pokemon to track down.

1 Latios - Hoenn a🐼nd Kanto 🃏

Pokemon Latios Hoenn Kanto Roaming Legendary

Latios and Latias might be cheating since their designs are so similar, but they're going to get the top two spots anyway. Matching his counterpart's mix of cool and cute, Latios edged Latias out of the top spot thanks to the result of a coin flip.

One interesting thing to note is that while Latios and Latias don't roam in Sapphire and Ruby respectively (and Heartgold and Soulsilver respectively), they can still be caught if you have the right event item. Hunting them down as roamers is far more satisfying, though. When you finally catch them you'll know you earned them, and being such great Pokemon, they're more than worth the effort.
