Many of tꦺhe great game series of yore have incredibly loyal fan bases that refuse to let their beloved franchises languish in the past. Think about all the famous game franchises from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras – every one of those games has a moওuntain of fan-made games.
The bulk of these fan-made games are a bit rough around the edges (to be nice), but there are also several examples that rival, and sometimes surpass, the original games. The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sonic the Hedgehog series has one of the most active fan game communities in g♒aming. A few of the games on this were 🔜made with the blessing of Sega, and are considered, by many, to be “must play” games in the series.
Updated on May 22, 2020, by Jeff Drake: Fan-made games offer a way for franchises to take on new lives or prolong nostalgia. They can also create entirely unique stories or combat mechanics as is the case with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Undertale fan games. Of course, not every company looks kindly on fans who choose to express their love in the form of games. Curiously, unlike Nintendo, Sega has given the "okay" to fan-made games -- 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:provided no money exchanges hands. Perhaps that's one reason we had to add more excellent games to this list.
15 Sonic The Hedgehog XG (Extended Genesis) 🍷
This was a very early Sonic fan game, ꧋and one of them remembered most fondly by fans of the franchise. The game never made it out of the demo phase, but there is a surprising amount of content in the demo.
Sonic XG has very responsive controls and a very colorful color ꧂palette. The game also uses some of the graphical effects the Genesis was known for; like dithering, to f🎃ake a transparency effect. The game is very fast-paced; this can sometimes be a bad thing with Sonic XG as there aren't enough open stretches to build up speed on many of the levels.
14 🌌Sonic Megamix
This fan game is based upon the original Sonic the Hedgehog but features new level designs, assets, and music. That’s not where the goodness stops though; the player can choose from fജive characters. This list of characters includes not only Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, but also Shadow and Mighty (the armadillo).
Additionally, each character has a different set of abilities – giving the game a tremendous amount of variety. The best thing about Sonic Megamix is that it can be played on the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:original Sega Genesis and Sega CD hardware. Cartridges and CD-🔜ROMs for this game can be found on eBay for a reasonable price.
13 Sonic.EXE
This Sonic fan game began as a creepypasta about a haunted version of the game. The pla🌞yer reported seeing the title screen change to a much darker version, with a Sonic displaying dark, bleeding eyes. Later, a person using the name MY5Tcrimson decided the world needed to be able to play the game described in the creepypasta.
The result is a 2D platformer crossed with a very dark horror game. Seriously, this game has some disturbing images; however, it’s nothing fans of horror movies can’t handle. Thi𒁃s game puts players in control of Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Robotnik as they try to survive the horrors of an evil, demonic Sonic.
12 🧔 Soni🦋c Utopia
This is the first 3D offering on this list. It is on this list because it is worth playing – which is a quality the official 3D Sonic games lack. For starters, this game looks incredible. Period. The developers did a fanta🤪stic job not only making the game run at a blazing speed but at making the game fast ♔yet still easy to control.
The game world is modeled after the Emerald Zone from the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:first Sonic the Hedgehog game. There are rings to collect, enemies to fight, and even checkpoint mar🍨kers. Zooming across the game-world as it smoothly scrolls by gives the game a sense of grandeur lacking in the official 3D Sonic games.
11 Sonic ꦦMania
Sonic Mania is perhaps the best-known of the games on this list; mainly due to it being available for the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Windows. This game began as a collaboration between Sega꧅ and an independent Sonic fan gaming group. Sonic Mania was originally just going to be a remaster of the first three games in the series.
But this project evolved into something new during development. The game features reworked levels from the original three games, a return of the 3D levels from Sonic CD, and even a hidden gameꦆ similar to Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine.
10 🌌 Sonic Time Twisted 🌳
Sonic Time Twisted is a Sonic fan game that does its best t𓆉o deliver an experience that mirrors the original games - meaning, if you liked the original three Sonic games you'll almost certainly enjoy this one. This impressive fan-made game has 28 Acts spread out across 8 zones. Expect to spend some time with this game until you finally defeat the final boss; who i﷽s is absolutely terrifying.
Time Twisted also incorporates so🍨me of the abilities found in later Sonic games, like an air dash maneuver. There are also parts of the game that play like a side-scrolling shoot 'em up. There are even 3D bonus stages that are a throwback to the 3D bonus stages in Sonic CD.
9 🐷 Emerald Ties
Emerald Ties is a Sonic fan game made from completely new assets and🐓 delivered in HD quality. “New assets” means that every graphical/visual object was made by the developers – nothing was recycled from the original games.
This serves to g🔥ive Emerald Ties a fresh and distinctive look when compared♛ to the original games – or the other games on this list for that matter. Emerald Ties looks beautiful, runs smoothly, has some great original tunes, and controls well. Some of the new enemies look like they were borrowed from a Mega Man game; which isn’t a bad thing.
8 ꦐ Sonic Wor♕ld
♐This is perhaps the most beloved of the 3D Sonic fan games. Sonic World is a great 3D Sonic game that has a ton of content. There's even a large modding community for this game. So, when you get done with everything Sonic World has to offer you can download a mod or two that will let you play through a new level...as Pikachu - among many, many other characters.
Sonic World gives players many characters to choose from. These characters have different abilities. Tails, for example, has limited flight and the ability to glide. This game has enormous, sprawled-out levels that a🐠llow players to run at top speed for more than just a second or two - something many official Sonic 3D games failed to provide.
7 🐬 ⛎ Green Hill Paradise – Act 2
If Sonic Utopia threw a little shade at Team Sonic about the lack of a great 3D Sonic game, then Green Hill Paradise - Act 2 put Team Sonic in a dark closet. The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:last offဣicial 3D Sonic game was Sonic Forces, and it received mixed reviews. Fans of the franchise who play Green Hill Paradise - Act 2 are always left with one question; “Why can’t Team Sonic produce somethinဣg as fun and visually appealing?”
This fan game looks incredible, with a vibrant color palette and a sense of scale that is just right. The size of the game world is fairly large, and there are hidden areas 🍸to find and crystals to try and collect. With any luck, the next official 3D Sonic game will look and play like this excellent fan game.
6 🐻 🅘 Sonic 2 HD
Many gamers will 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:remember the remake of the NES Duck Tales game that was released in 2013, and how great it looked while still retaining the charm of the original? Now, don’t you wish someone would do this for a Sonic game? Well, your wish has been🦄 granted in the form of Sonic 2 HD. This is a faithfully recreated version of Sonic 2 in crisp HD detail.
The music and sound effects have also been redone as well, and the results are both familiar and improved. The animations have also been improvꦉed upon. One area that could be improved though is the backgrounds. The backgrounds are a bit simplistic (for an HD game anyway); however, this does not decrease the fun factor in the least.
