Video game protagonists are often put into difficult situations where they have to overcome insurmountable odds to achieve victory. So, most gaming stories would class as underdog tales. Yet, not all of them feature characters that you'd consider underdogs. For instance, Master Chief faces many tough challenges throughout the Halo series, but because he's so incredibly skilled and physically imposing, you'd never see him as an underdog.

There aren't many heroes like Chief, though. Plenty of other main characters are dark horses in their games, either because they aren't the most skilled characters or they're simply up against something they shouldn't be able to handle. Here are the best ones.

Link has gone on countless adventures over the years, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:spanning back to the 1980s. In pretty much all those games, he saves Zelda, Hyrule, or both. He does so by battling all sorts of 𝔍monsters and evi🦩l fiends, including Ganondorf.

This villain should be almost unstoppable, as he's basically like a god in his Ganon form. But Link manages to do it time and again, despite being a regular guy. In fact, he's sometimes a child when he attempts to save the world. He shouldn't stand a chance.

She then spends the rest of the game trying to protect her younger sibling from both the Inquisition ꦆforces and the vicious plague rats that come out at night. This is a big task for a teenager with no ❀combat experience, whose only weapon is a sling.

5 Raiden - Metal Gear Sol♏id 2: Sons Of Libert🎃y

Metal Gear Solid 2 Raiden

At the start of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Metal Gear Solid 2, Raiden seems to be a complete rookie. While he's completed a lot of virtual missions, his real-life combat experience is said to be non-existent. You later find out this isn't true, as, unfortunately, he was a child soldier who saw plenty of battle. Still, by the sounds of it, he doesn't have the experience required for the mission he undertakes in MGS2, as it's a sneaking operation.

To make matters worse, it's mostly a solo mission where he has to rescue the president from terrorists - that's the initial objective, at least. And these aren't all regular goons he's fighting. Some are members of Dead Cell, who all have incredible skills and equipment.

4 🦋 ♑Isaac Clarke - Dead Space Series

Dead Space Remake Isaac Clarke Killing The Necromorph

Throughout the Dead Space series, Isaac Clarke keeps finding himself in dangerous situations where he has to face off with creatures known as Necromorphs. The protagonist is a ship systems engineer. Yet, he keeps beating the odds by surviving constant run-ins with the beasts. He does so using his brains and any weapons he can scavenge. It's an impressive feat.

To make matters worse, violent and surprisingly powerful humans are typically roaming around, killing anyone they see. So, survival in this world is tough. Yes, she has groups of allies at times, but the responsibility to keep everyone alive often falls on her.

This should be too much for Clem to handle as she's only a child. In fact, even surviving for as long as she does is incredibly impressive. Many adults in her world fail to do the same. This is why she's considered one of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the best zombie survivors in gaming.

1 ♕ Mario - Super Ma🦹rio Series

Mario throws Cappy in New Donk City

Throughout the many Super Mario games, the titular character manages to save Princess Peach and the Mushroom Kingdom. These constant accomplishments are incredibly impressive, considering he's continually up against Bowser, who is very large, strong, and can breathe fire. Not to mention, the hero is also able to get past his army, which is filled with all sorts of other deadly creatures.

To manage those feats, you'd think Mario would have to be some sort of super soldier. In reality, he's just a short plumber with incredible jumping ability. Nobody would bet on the guy to save the day.
