Looking back, the horror genre during the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 days was a big shift from the previous generation. The three big classic horror game series, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Resident Evil, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Silent Hill, and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fatal Frame, falteဣred in this p♕eriod. Resident Evil still had great games, but they were action titles, not horror.

The Silent Hill series completely jumped the shark at this point, and the only new Fatal Frame game was exclusive to Japan. What dominated the horror genre now were the new kids on the block. Brand new IPs like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dead Space, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Left 4 Dead, and many more are what cemented this horro🌱r era.

10 Fear

A player with an assault rifle enters a gunfight with enemy soldiers in a corridor of a building in Fear.

Still to this day, remembered as one of the greatest horror FPS games, Fear is an excellent early 360 title. Combining slow-mo gunfights with horror elements and a very messed-up story, it's still fun to play today. It's even better on Xbox Series X|S, which offers FPS Boost running at 60. There is one thing to keep in mind, though.

Fear is an older console FPS from 2006 and offered checkpoints instead of the usual save anywhere feature most FPS games had at the time. These checkpoints can be far away from each other and could lead to frustration. Old-school players shouldn't have a problem with this, but it is worth pointing out for modern gamers.

9 ꦯ Condemned: Criminal Origins

Condemned Criminal Origins An Armed Enemy Prepare To Attack

Another game developed by Monolith Productions was Condemned: Criminal Origins. While Fear was primarily developed for PC and later ported to Xbox, Condemned was the other way around. Due to this, it feels much better to play nowadays than the 360 port of Fear. Plus, it's a better horror game in general, with a spookier atmosphere.

These environments and some of the scares are still effective in making you feel like saying nope and turning off the game. It's that kind of haunted house feeling in that you just want to leave. The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:story's also pretty engaging and has more depth than you may think.

8 🐭 Splatterhouse

The 2D boss fight with Biggy Man from the 2010 Splatterhouse.

There are plenty of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:good games with bad Metacritic scores, and one of them is Splatterhouse. It was a long-awaited reboot of the classic horror gaming series, and it wꦯas worth the wait for the most part. Splatterhouse has a pretty solid combat system for the time, offers stellar voice acting, and very creative levels. Unfortunately, what likely killed this game for many was the disastrous first two.

The opening bits are handled so poorly that many likely quit there, but if you get past that, the game gets infinitely better. Unfortunately, Splatterhouse is one of the more expensive 360 titles, and it's also recommended to install this game to improve load times.

7 ꧙ 𒅌 Shadows Of The Damned

Some people buy games due to the creators involved, which was likely why people picked up Shadows of the Damned back then. A collaboration between Suda51, Resident Evil co-creator Shinji Mikami, and long-time Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, it was a promising horror title. In reality, the game's more of a horror comedy.

Shadows of the Damned does have its issues with the cringe juvenile humor and a distinct lack of a New Game Plus mode, but for the most part, is a pretty solid third-person shooter. It is more akin to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Resident Evil 4 than other shooters at the time, like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gears of War, which is a major advantage. The gameplay still holds up in its fun factor, and that wouldn't be the case if it was a cover shooter.

6 ꦛ Left 4 Dead 2🍌

Left 4 Dead 2 is not only one of the best 360 horror games; it's probably one of the best horror games of all time. It's still up here with the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:greatest multiplayer horror titles like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dead by Daylight, still a lot of fun, and continues to have an active playerbase. As a refined version of the original game, plenty of gameplay tweaks are 🦋made to improve the overall experience.

For example, you'll often be grabbing new weapons as ammo piles are significantly rarer than Left 4 Dead 1. This makes you try out new weapons that you might have neglected otherwise. Left 4 Dead 2 is a game you can boot up at any time and just have a blast regardless of solo or co-op play.

5 Alan Wake

An Xbox 360 in Emerson's room in Alan Wake.

Twin Peaks' impact is large in the world of video games, and one of the titles clearly inspired by it is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Alan Wake. A story about a writer's own manuscript coming to life; the narrative is great, and the third-person action isn't half bad either.

Even with Alan Wake Remastered out, the best way to play Alan Wake is the 360 version. The dark visuals and color palette just gel better here, and all the visuals remain consistent. In the remaster, they've updated a few character models while keeping others as is, which creates a visual inconsistency.

4 Dead Rising ꧑

A Clown boss in Dead Rising raises his chainsaws.

Looking back, it's fascinating that there's still no other game quite like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dead Rising. It's a zombie game set in a mall, and you're given 72 hours to do whatever you want. You're supposed to do the main story and side content, but you could just wait six real-life hours on the starting helipad to beat the game if you want to. For a 2006 title, it's visually and mechanically impressive.

While the game is infamous for its dumb AI survivors, you can argue that it adds to the challenge and makes it even more satisfying when they're rescued. Doing a perfect run completing the main story, side missions, and rescuing all the survivors feels amazing. It's a shame the series could never top the original entry, but Dead Rising remains 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:one of the best zombie games to this day.

3 De💫adly Premonition ൲

The usual game that gets brought up in regards to so bad it's good titles is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Deadly Premonition. That connotation is somewhat accurate but doesn't tell the whole story. The story of Deadly Premonition is bold, creative, off the walls, and has a lot of heart put into it. The ending climax, in particular, will blow your mind.

It's the aspect that'll drive you forward, as the gameplay's just okay. Deadly Premonition is another survival horror third-person shooter that does its job, at least, and will give you a few good scares. It's definitely worth a playthrough for the story alone.

2 Dཧoom 3: BFG Editioꦫn

Mini-Gunning Spider Boss Doom 3

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Doom 3: BFG Edition is a controversial game within the Doom community because of the changes it made from the original 2004 PC title. However, considering most audiences today haven't played the original, you're not going to notice anything. Doom 3 is still scary and decent-looking.

The campaign's a bit of a slow burn, but it really picks up later on, especially when you enter Hell. That's when the combat encounters really dial it up a notch. Doom 3 offers many memorable scares, with the cheekiest one being you opening a door and there's a Revenant directly on the other side. That one will get you good.

1 ♉ Dead Space

Regarding single-player horror games on the 360, you just can't top Dead Space. The second game has better and more fleshed-out combat, but in terms of raw horror, Dead Space is better. That grimy John Carpenter sci-fi horror aesthetic combined with the actual horrifying environments creates an unforgettable atmosphere.

The first game also doesn't use false scares and instead has plenty of chilling and creepy moments. Dead Space 2, on the other hand, does have its share of false scares, and they can be cringeworthy. While the first entry received a full-blown remake and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:an excellent one at that, it's still worthwhile to play the classic due to its many differences.
